Looking at 1440p suggestions

Hi all, I'm looking to upgrade my monitor and would like suggestions. My current screen is a Samsung PLS 60 Hz 24" monitor, I would like a 1440p screen with more then 60hz, around 24 - 27 inches, non TN Panel and no more then 5ms. My budget is around 200-450 CAN at most, I'm not expecting to cover all my needs in this range but 75hz freesync should be doable.

Any suggestions are welcomed and appreciated

The best monitor in this size range ... to my mind the best gaming monitor available today is the 165Hz, IPS, Acer Predator XB271HU. Last week it was $797 ... this week it's $599 on newegg (USA). The Asus PG279Q is close but the Asus panel is 8 bit whereas the Acer is 10 bit color. My guess is that with the new 4K 144 Hz HDR w/ 1000 nits panels dropping in Q2, the "shine" will be off the above two monitors and Acer has dropped the price in the hopes of clearing out stock. Once HDR drops, current tech will be a harder sell. However, with your current card, it's not really an option as it's G-Sync

Unfortunately nothing much exists in your price range that is not TN and capable of gaming with a image that I think you are looking for.

took some advice from the Vangaurd grp and have decided to forego 1440P in favor of freesync. Im looking at this now,ASUS VG278Q http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=22_1195_700_1104&item_id=112492

although I gotta warn you those cheap IPS freesync panels are crap, and certainly worse than an 8-bit TN. They have a ton of backlight bleed and black is just God awful.


With that money I'd buy Acer XF240YU

Anything above 25 inch with regular ~100 PPI should really be IPS/VA

Is it worth the price gap? yes. Is it worth the loss of 3ms response? Yes. Got more questions? Yes its also worth all the other differences. If you buy a TN, it should be for simple applications and at a LOW price point. Paying more than 150-200 for a TN means you got screwed, regardless of how much marketing and software they add on top.

Well I'm on a fixed income so the cheaper the better, I'm not spending $700 CAN for a monitor lol. I'm just trying to find the best option in my range. So I'd welcome advice on the 2 monitors I've listed here rather then saying I should pay more (because that's not gonna happen)

i'll put it this way, not everyone that comes to TPU is rich asf or has money to throw around. Some of us have limited budgets and other responsibilities that we cant just take the best suggestions regardless of price. You say dont get this, dont do that...but if you had limited funds you would be asking for advice as well. Well at least the Vangaurd discord offered advice without issue

I'm not bickering? You might want to consider waiting a bit instead of getting half of what you really wanted at this point. 144hz TN especially in lower price ranges really aren't fantastic so its worth considering what you stand to gain from this purchase.

Whoa this blows my mind, a person changing their choice.
The price of gaming IPS displays are horrendous, which could be justified if they were really that superior to gaming TNs.

To the OP, my personal observation - you're fine going with a TN panel, but choose one which is pre-calibrated or has a good OSD menu. I had S2716DG and could never overcome bad factory calibration and the lack of OSD options to do that. However, with the Acer monitor I currently have, I could not be happier for what I paid.
