Hello to everyone on the forum,

I purchased an HD7850 a couple of months ago, tought about trying out Battlefield Bad Company 2 today and stumbled upon something really weird: GPU usage is at 99-100% in singleplayer or when playing on an online server with no people, resulting in 70-80 fps all the time, but when I join an online server with ppl on it, even when it has 4/32 ppl the GPU usage goes down to 40-60% and I get like 35-40 fps :shadedshu This does NOT happen in any other game, only game with this low GPU usage I've encountered is BFBC2. This makes it weird to play since I had more fps on my old GTS 450

PC SPECS:

AMD Phenom II x4 955 3.6 Ghz
Kingston 8GB DDRII 800 Mhz RAM
Sapphire HD7850 1GB Dual-X
Samsung F1 1TB HDD
750 Watt PSU

This is not a CPU bottleneck nor anything else, proof is that it only happens on online servers, any way to fix it?

P.S.: Using the newest 13.1 AMD Drivers.

check your temps.

BFBC2 has very high cpu usuage even more than BF3.

Installing latest CAP made the GPU usage go to about 65-70% constant, fps is a little better but still far from normal, about 45-50 fps. CPU Temps sit around 50-55 degrees celsius during a match, they never go over 55.

LOok at CPU usage when on a full server, BFBC2 is what made me go from a dual to quad 775 CPU then finally to my i5 as online was so CPU intensive

Tested CPU usage on a full 32 player online match on Oasis, CPU usage was lowest 86% and highest 98%, staying between 90-95% on average. Temps never went above 56 degrees celsius for CPU. Fps was about 35-45 with a max of 50 sometimes.

Increased my CPU clock from 3.6 to 3.7 Ghz, CPU usage went down to 60-65% instead of 90-95%, ima report the fps increase soon but it feels more stable now :toast:

Edit: Game way more stable now, fps same tho, between 35 and 50 fps, 50-60% GPU usage :\ CPU usage stays at 65% with normal temps on both CPU and GPU.... this is probably a driver problem...

Edit #2: Increasing the CPU clock to 3.7Ghz plus tweaking with some of the GPU clocks fixed about 80% of my problem, game doesn't run perfect but really is playable now, minimum fps is 40 and average is about 52-60 on 1920x1080 with all maxed out 8xAA, GPU still being used at only 65-70% tho and CPU usage stays at 65% now instead of 95+% at 3.6Ghz, providing playable framerates. If u guys know any good AMD driver that would increase GPU usage please let me know, back to BFBC2 now :)

Yea fps is way better now, playing with 4xAA and Vsync on gives me 50-60 fps at all time, still too bad GPU usage ain't higher, it's way higher than before tho, stays at 75-85% with CPU usage at 60-65%, overclocking the CPU to 3.7 rly changed everything.

yea CPU bottleneck

had the Phenom II back when the 5850 was king

Dual GPU 5850s on a Phenom II gave me the same framerate as a single GPU on a 2500k

games heavily CPU dependent,

Battlefield 3 is less so since they scaled back destruction.

IMPORTANT UPDATE:

After uninstalling BFBC2 from Origin and uninstalling Origin, then installing BFBC2 from my DVD copy and manually updating the game runs WAY better now, fps never drops under 50. Point is, Origin sucks :)
