Lynx Point USB 3.0 Controller Issue Correction Needs New Hardware

1. First off if your going into sleep mode I would always save my work.
2. this really isn't a big deal for me the only usb plugged in is my mouse and keyboard. I never leave my external HDD plugged in, only when I need it.
3. Can't people just disable S3 and use a different S state?
4. Would safely removing a device before putting it in sleep mode fix this? but leave it still plugged in.

1. its a default feature of windows, enabled by default. this WILL affect many people.

2. i have 18TB of external storage. no way in hell would i unplug each drive and replug after S3 sleep.

3. S1 is standby (monitor and hard drives off. everything else on). . S3 is sleep mode. S4 is hibernate. (most BIOS only let you choose S1 or S3)

4. doubt it. how would you 'safely reconnect' it?


the worst part is that this might get mentioned in a motherboard manual at best. this bug will not be listed on mobo boxes, nor will users buying prebuilts be notified of "oh yeah, the USB 3.0 ports are glitchy"

Yeah i didn't think about reconnecting it.
and dang 18TB of storage! I can fit every data i own on 600GB. Is your 18TB on USB 3.0? if not then you don't have a problem.

I wonder if you have a device that's 2.0 plugged into a 3.0 plug is it effected? or is it everything is affected.

so again the question is, is it the the usb3.0 controller/chipset thats faulty? or the sleep states on the haswell chip thats faulty? in other words, would motherboards use third party usb3.0 controllers fix this problem? or is that not possible?

if it used third party USB Controllers, those ports would not suffer from the issue.

this is specifically related to the built in USB 3 ports of the intel chipset.
