Making the case for a console over a PC with Far Cry 4

Can you see why some gamers just get a console over a PC to avoid the hassle?

I play on all platforms,PC,consoles and portable handheld consoles. They all have their goods and bad although which platform i prefer all boils down to genre and exclusive title releases.
I like the fact games on PC are cheap as hell when sales occur and i much prefer keyboard+mouse for FPS games alone, the joy of playing MMORPG and other online games that aren't available to consoles is a plus like Hearthstone.
What i like about consoles and handheld such as PSVita and "new" 3DS is their exclusive titles on their platforms, i have recently got the new Monster hunter 4 ultimate 3DS XL as a valentine gift from the other half and the game is fantastic, you won't see this type of game published on PC unless you live in Asia you can play online game.
The PS3 and PS4 has the ability to play import games which i do like because i do import japanese games to play and no deny if you love JRPG you will buy a console for those games alone and most importantly for me the choice is based on my friendship circle and family members, they all play on console games so i tend to get certain games just for that reason to have fun.
Most important factor is to have fun with everyone,if all my friends was playing on PC then i would get all games on PC but i will still own console for those exclusive titles that gets released.

why don’t have both?

its amazing to play with friends Mortak Kombat for example… buts its awesome to play FPS alone in the dark with your Keyboard and mice…. headset at your Gaming Rig,
At least that’s what I do with friends, and with my prefered PC titles, I do prefer PC over console, but I'm console compatible…! my humble opinion

There is some people that just dont like to spend time solving something, troubleshootin' and craps.. thats why they move on to console...

I'll never even consider getting a PS or Xbox as long as they keep clinging to proprietary gamepad designs that are antiquated as hell.

Valve are about the only ones trying to offer an alternative design. Too bad they keep revising it to look more like typical gamepads though.

whats wrong with the microsoft and sony controllers? I always preferred sony myself but the 360 controller is most sold for pc for a reason.
if valve really wants the steam os and machines to thrive they should not be fraking around with the controller so much.. they should be talking amd into getting mantle open source and working for nv gpu's too.
amd and valve working closely together on the steam os would attract more than enough developers. they would certainly get me off the windows boat.

I would agree, though the Xbox One controller is substantially better then the 360. I tend to forget im holding a controller most of the time. I can't really stand holding a 360 anymore which is why I got a USB to Micro-USB for my Xbone controller to use on my PC.

Won't happen with DX12 coming.

That's the beauty of the PC - I enjoy the head scratching moments it throws at me. As frustrating as some of them may be, identifying, fixing and verifying the problem is resolved is what I greatly enjoy (when I'm not gaming, that is).

I do agree that most people will prefer the console route since it's mostly just, put in disc and things work (generally). It takes goofballs like me (and others on TPU) to really enjoy PC gaming, even with any problems that comes with it.

The last major problem I had was the new ASRock MB I got when I purchased my Phenom II x4 940 years ago. After countless hours of TSing the problem I was having, many, many re-installs of Windows Vista and swapping of hardware - I still really enjoyed the challenge it gave me. At the end, even ASRock's tech lead was left scratching his head and he just had me RMA the board. The new one worked flawlessly.

Or the chuckle I got from my younger brother when he came to visit and brought his tower. He told me he turned on the computer one day and it didn't start and he could smell smoke, so he unplugged it and left it sit. I opened the side panel on the tower and immediately saw that every single capacitor on the MB had blown. I pulled the PSU - the fan was caked in dust - and cleaned it off. I looked inside and you see the problem stemmed from there - most likely overheated and went poof! taking other hardware with it.

TL;DR - gaming on a computer challenges me when it doesn't work and I enjoy solving the problems (few and far between) that it can throw at me. This isn't something for everyone, so I can certainly see the appeal for consoles.

I absolutely HATE when the joysticks are right next to each other. That is why I choose the Xbox controller.

that controler is like PS controler.. so its fine for me .. i dont play Xbox so much..
most of my friends have PS3 /PS4 so playing with my control is almost the same that using PS's version...

nintendo controller are kinda cool too, also N64 Controller was kinda Odd but comfortable depending the game... for Golden Eye was absolutely Pro!

The N64's joystick was bad. It would dig into my thumb during extended gameplay and get really sore. Come to think of it, I remember using medical tape on my thumbs playing SNES. Excepting the Wii Remote, Nintendo probably has the worst track record for controller design.

Only reason why I would take Xbox over PlayStation for PC use is that Xbox controllers are well supported. You have to do a song and dance to make the PlayStation controller work (emulates Xbox).

Thats a matter of luck i may say ... i had N64 for 2 years without damaging any controller, played almost 5 times per week and also with friends,

another reason for logitech's plug and play controller.!

omg guys! cod advanced warefare mp is free on steam for the next 2 days! I probably won't be getting any sleep and getting my credit card ready :laugh:

Left handed controllers would change my no to a yes...:).

I can see issues when using a mouse, but can someone please enlighten me why a controller matters.

I have always been curious as to why so many lefties take issue with the layout of the controller. Half of my gamer friends I have grown up with since the Collecovision days are left-handed and I have never heard them complain either about a controller layout or are hampered by it. In fact my lefty friends always brag that the analogues are set up in their favour. When the I first used a Nintendo controller I actually thought that the D-pad was on the wrong side as it didn't make sense to my 7 year old logic. As a righty I can now play Street Fighter using Ken/Ryu with only my left hand. Gamers get used to the layout and their brain adjusts.

Anyway my vote goes to No/PC. The only serious issues I have ever encountered in games were from Ubisoft. Sure the PC often gets shitty ports of console games, but at least they still play the same way when using a controller even if they don't push the GPU.

I started my life as a lefty and ended up being neither for the most part by the time I got to high school.. I wanted to start playing guitar when I was like 15 so I walked into a local shop and told them I heard I might need a left handed guitar.. after they where done laughing they handed me a gibson les paul classic :)

I use PS4 controller to play any games that's not good for mouse+keyboard like Tomb raider for example on PC. Quite simple really just need install the xbox 360 drivers and then install DS4Tools and you be good to go.
The PS4 controller is much needed improvement over the old DS2 and DS3/Six axis controller design,its a lot bigger which fits the hand a lot more comfortable and triggers a lot better too.

For me, and I think for many that don't like toggle gamepads, the aiming is just too slow and awkward. Now I'm not sure I'd like tactile touch pads any better, but I know for sure I don't like the toggles, because I've tried them extensively on friend's systems. There's also been quite a few tests when the KB/M adapters for consoles started flooding the market, and on games that adapted well to them, KB/M users were easily beating the gamepad users. They're just not as precise and intuitive for most as KB/M is. They're also far more limited in speed and bindings. I mean it's obvious.

What doesn't make sense with Steam Machine is here they are holding off release only to make them more like typical consoles. If they keep going this direction they will wind up worse than PS or Xbox if they try to compete in that arena because they'll get beaten on exclusives and general library volume. It's going to take a while to put out a fair number of titles on Linux.

Well there is an unbreakable truth between gamepad, there is not going to be a better or bad one, it’s a matter of pleasure, comfort and many cases cosmetics, ergonomics can be added...
FPS on a console gamepad... give a break ! i just respect people who plays FPS with a gamepad :rolleyes:

Kinda validates my points on their limitations. Its a very antiquated design that NEEDS reinventing. The problem is, a lot of players have already gotten used to bad habits via poor controller design, so it's going to be hard for anyone to make something better and convince people it is. At the end of the day, familiarity, even with the worst of designs, takes precedence.

im not sure about a re-design, things are the way they are, there is a small group that its outside normal things due personal preferences but that wont be disccused, the mainstream gaming settings are here for a reason, confort...due a game style or genre,

"Mainstream" :
FPS=Keyboard +Mouse +Headset
RPG=Keyboard +Mouse +Headset
Indie=Keyboard +Mouse +Headset
Sports(Soccer, Wrestling, race)=Gamepad + Speakers

i do respect other opinions, also as frag said there is people gaming and enjoyning it the most with unconfortale game or also there is people that have nevr tried another options for playing a specific game,

Regards,

A redesign is obviously needed just given that plenty of players, even those whom own both consoles, refuse to use gamepads for shooters. Those players buy their shooters on PC, and there are a lot of them. There's also still a lot of games that offer some kind of auto aim for gamepads.

It doesn't get anymore plain to see than that.

I had NES > SNES > Genesis > N64/PSX . Then dropped consoles.
Other than console exclusives (that really doesn't justify it for me) I don't see the point in getting a console, except not liking to build a PC.
Current consoles are like pre-built PCs bought on a Wal-Mart or something like that, lol.
