So I have been helping a friend get a computer working better. Her son seemingly royally gimped it I realize now after I got a call from her and she told me it crashed while installing SP1 on Vista Home Premium and now will not load Vista. I want to run Memtest, but I doubt she will let me open the PC (prebuilt HP), but if I were to let it do maybe 20 full passes with out error, would that be enough to assume that everything is ok there? Thanks!

I would say so on the memtest front. If you could find a version of DOS Prime to run too that'd be a good idea just to make sure, more on the Blend test than straight up CPU test imo. I'd say you should be safe with your test and assumption, sure there's still a chance of failure, but I do trust memtest to find it for me for the most part and after 20 passes I'd have to say you're ok.
