Microsoft claims Aero doesn't slow computers

i dont give a flying fuck whats said, as longs all that pre-applied spyware crap is in vista allowing basically anyone to walk right on in your pc, collect and delete any info they want, then promptly piss the fuck off again and not be held accountable for any loss of data, im not touching vista. nevermind the fact vista goes nuclear after 2 weeks if it doesnt have a net connection to "call home", lack of OGL still (as far as i know) making games like quake 4 look like shit, excessive hdd wear, increased gpu temps, being a memory hog... i rest my case.

well done microsoft, you created the biggest piece of shit to date.

ed- for the record im running vista transformation pack 6 done by mr. windows x, making xp look like vista, but wthout all the negatives (well most anyway) and without a clean restart an just FF closed, RAM usage is 166MB. beat that vista.

Turn up the page file size and you won't get that message, I would expect that even a computer novice would be able to read "Your page file is low" and be able to figure out that if you increase the size of your page file the message will go away, but somehow that conclusion eluded you. Or even better, you can just leave it set to the default option of "Let windows control my page file" so it behaves identically to what OSX does.

Apparently you've never got 4 calls in one day about the damn error :banghead: I'm not even gonna get into how people think sticky keys has suddenly slowed their PC down.

Problem is, it defaults to "Let windows manage this"

It just loves to tell users.

and it freaks the shit out of them.

Users don't want balloons telling them their low on memory. They dont want a balloon to ask if they want to learn how to use windows! they don't want fancy paperclips jumping out at them...

They just wanna get their work over with and get on with life >_>

They constantly over simplify the simple. Users don't need that damn bubble to show them where the start button is anymore, they need something that wont be filled with spyware, warranting a $100-$200 "cleaning" bill, every 6 months.

I'm gonna hate to see what battery life is gonna go through.

My Core 2 duo gets around 3-4hours if I'm light, an hour and a half playing WoW.

3d GUI in vista is gonna eat what little battery life we already have... Everyone's gonna have to default to the 2d anyways..

which begs the question, is it that necessary?

Apple has implemented a very effective, attractive, powerful UI without requiring 3d acceleration.

Why? It eats resources... G3's didnt exactly have a ton.. now we have horsepower out the waZoo.

I love transparency. Looks like I'm not gonna get it with windows Vista though.

Wait what? I have heard some pretty crappy arguments against Vista that at least had a strand of truth in them, but this has to take the "Most full of it" post of the week award.

newtekie, you should know by now that Ketxxx doesn't have a single worthwhile post to his credit.

sarcasm? eh, what do i care. plenty of other folk will come along and say all the same again adding extra info, most folk arent blind, only fanboys :D

Personally I'm sticking with XP. I don't need 1/2 the power of my computer being used for a GUI. I want it running my apps.

No I don't, because the institution I work for isn't stupid enough to have that many machines with inanely low memory amounts. In fact starting in 2005 no machine was purchased with less than 512MB, and in 2006 no machine was purchased with less than 1GB. There are still a few 256MB machines floating around, and even some 128MB machines, open for public use. But all the machines that have users that can actually call me for support are at least 512MB. That doesn't stop the call I get almost every time I setup a brand new OSX machine complaining about it being sluggish "almost like it came out of the box loaded with spyware", and those are the exact words of one of my users, not me. Sometimes they get mad when I tell them "That is just how OSX is, it can be sluggish sometime."

I do, and I am a user. It is nice to have a balloon tip telling you what is going on sometimes. Though luckily they can but turned off in a matter of 10 seconds if I don't want them.

Apple has implemented a very effective, attractive, powerful UI without requiring 3d acceleration.

So has Microsoft, their 2D UI in Vista looks very nice, just as Apple's does. The 3D acceleration is only required for the very extreme UI features, though the fact that even the GMA950 can pull off enough 3D acceperation to use those extreme UI features is nice. You don't need a powerful machine by any means to pull of the full effect of Vista, even the lowest of the low Mac Mini can pull them off without a problem.

Why? It eats resources... G3's didnt exactly have a ton.. now we have horsepower out the waZoo.

If you truly have a machine that can't pull of Transperency because the video card isn't strong enough(and mind you the extreme low end GMA950 can do it just fine) then chances are it isn't handling that pretty OSX UI that well either.

I rest my case.

It reminds me of when XP came out and people were struggling to get better performance on there 1ghz P3 computers by turning off animations, unused services, ect. Eventually they upgraded there PCs and probably can't notice any performance loss with those effects being on or off. Vista will probably be the same way. Older users might wind up disabling the effects including 3d but others with ubbercomputers will crank it up. Even with a fast computer I'd rather have better responce then better looks. For compairison has anyone ran windows 98se on a p4? Hauls doesn't it? Boots in 5 seconds. Instant responce. It's all about keeping the industry rolling I guess. If software ran effortlessly on a $500 Walmart computer who would ever buy another PC? They make faster computers, then bog them down only to make faster computers again. It's a cycle.

XP was generally well greeted however, vista is just pure crap in so many ways i could write an essay on it.

Want myself and others to take your posts seriously? Grasp the English language first.

You're/your. "You're" is a contraction of "you are." "Your" is a modifier. Very simple. Do not use "you're" to modify nouns. "Your keys." "Your desk." Do not use "your" as a second-person verb phrase. "You're up early." "You're leaving?" Here's a phrase with both: "You're moving your car, right?" In other words, you are moving the car that belongs to you. "You're" = verb phrase. "Your" = adjective.

there you go throwing your bottle and dummy out the pram again. does overcasty-poo need his nappy changing this time as well? this is the last time im cleaning your mess up, kissy kissy.

Hmm... to many of my newsposts are getting heated at the moment

Let's not throw personal insult ok? Keep it purely technology based and less of the bitching!

New os x machine sluggish? Odd, normally people are like "wow these things are always so clean" about ours... But I guess thats what happens when you keep idiot users from being able to clutter them up to begin with.

Yeah, my grandma loves those balloons too. First she thinks her computer's dieing, then she has to learn what memory is.

These arent corporate calls, its home use. and its bull. :banghead:

Yeah, too bad transparency was broke as hell last time I tried to use it in windows XP.

Haven't seen any 2d transparency of vista as of yet... graphical error ftw.

Enough with the arguments. Ketxxx, if I hear another thing like that "baby bottle" out of your mouth, you're going on "vacation". We don't do the whole "personal insult" thing here on TPU. Newtekie is the only one that kept to the rules of debate...defending his points without dishonoring those who disagreed with him. And overcast, quite frankly I've heard enough out of you and mout12 for a long time. Your infractions reflect that quite nicely, in my opinion.

I really don't see how Ketxxx, the one to first start throwing constant insults and came straight out and did nothing but insult people, didn't at least get an infraction for it, but I guess that is why I am not a mod. But then again I guess posting 11 message a day gets you special treatment, even if those posts have no substance other than insulting people.

OMG, seriously?

PS. For the record, my post had nothing to do with this last page of arguing points. I was just getting through the first page and a half of all these contradicting points when I posted this.

Oh trust me, he got an infraction, you just can't see it because you're not mod (you can only see your own infractions...I'll ask W1zzard to change that sometime). And there's a huge difference between Ket and the two guys I banned. The two guys I banned FREQUENTLY have been making the news threads a nasty place to comment in, always arguing, sometimes insulting...so I gave them 5 day bans to remind them that TPU is not fight club. Ketxxx rarely has outbursts, so I gave him a warning. Next time though, he'll be reminded the rules a bit more clearly.

Or you could just ask W1z to make me a mod. :D

I assure you he has enough infractions. Although I like Ketxxx, his behavior is totally unacceptable. Usually he's a nice guy. Maybe he's just having a rough week or something ...

So, Dave - please stop with the insults. I don't want to see you banned mate. :(

Amen.
