I do see an opt out button below the time and date but I simply don't trust them. Advice?

Give it a try !

Spying , yeah but they do this on 7/8.1 as well

I did that transition and dont regret . Windows 10 is the most beautiful Windows ever ! The drivers work better for me , than of Windows 7 . Though the temperatures have risen 2-5C .

Backup your hard drive as it is now (use Macrium Reflect Free, that way you can just restore it just in case) and try Win 10 out. There is a rollback feature in 10 for 30-days after upgrading too. :)

Frankly I like 10, it has been a good experience for me overall. I'd say it is worth giving a shot while it is still a free upgrade. :toast:

Resistance is futile.

....
Sorry, dude. Couldn't resist.

True dat.

I did the "Click here" and opted out. Seemed rather painless, which concerns me greatly lol

At work we have Win7 and the IT guys have figured out how to suppress the Win10 upgrade notifications. I'll have to ask how they did it.

As far as Microsoft is concerned, they believe you've signed up to donate your first-born. That's how their internal logic works.

Have you been keeping a eye on the KBs you been installing? Some of the important updates hide it in it and they reissued the same ones on occasions.

If you want I can go hunt out the powershell commands and the KBs that hide it that you tell powershell to see if they are installed and uninstall them.

Also, note that some of those updates do hide the updated telemetry that W10 has that they pushed out to W7/W8. Reason I keep a sharp eye on updates now and don't allow any auto updating at all. About to get to the point of full manual updating and nuking windows update fully.

I've been using this without a single hiccup on my dual boot laptops(Windows 7 Home Premium x64/Ubuntu MATE).

Aegis for Windows 7/8.x

Resistance isn't futile...it's effortless.

:),

Liquid Cool

@Sasqui I know Microsoft have really been in yer face about this upgrade and a bit underhand too. However, I recently upgraded from W7 and haven't looked back. Just make a system image before you do the upgrade and give it a go.

Just run the freebie O&O ShutUp10 to get rid of all the intrusive telemetry if you're bothered by it (I do). I also run the freebie Classic Shell for a normal Start menu rather than the hybrid thing that comes with W10.

I gotta know what they did too.

I NEVER ASKED FOR THIS

:D

I just deleted the gwx.exe crap, unjnstalled the local storage of the orphan os, and removed 3035583 or whatever it is and i never hear bout it.

I did try it,and everytime,i cloned my win7 with discwizard before, and when it made me grumpy, i tossed 10back from whence it came.

I cant see any reason not to go win 10, all of my machines both at work and at home is upgraded, and the system works flawlessly.

You've just made Microsoft cry.

I keep my windows 8.1 systems updating manually, I read first what every update does and then install or not, every update that says something about "future version of windows" or so I hide all those updates even though the kb3035583 update seemed to pop up several more times while I had already hid it, anyways still going well sofar, no gwx on my systems! ;)

Just upgrade to Win10. No reason not to ...

I believe you may have missed the more recent Get Windows 10 "update". KB305*383 ...something like that. Since everyone got wise to the old one, that is the one that started appearing in the last 35 days. It came already checked as an "Important" update. MS doing its best to win Worst Company of the Decade award.

EDIT: It's a pain, but manual update, preceded by looking up each and every update to see what it does is essential to winning the fight.

As you can see, I gave up the fight on my main PC, but did it on my own terms. I still continue the battle for the heart of my HTPC. ;)

Yea, I don't recall signing the "Ben Dover" agreement.

I really don't like the stock interface in 8 or 10... Or office 365. So many non-obvious menus (hidden is more like it). And relying on a 3rd party interface is not an attractive option. I'm a hold out for now... I may try 10 on my second home PC in due time.

Use Linux on your HTPC? ^^ Works fine for me!

And relying on a 3rd party interface is not an attractive option.

3rd party works perfectly. I've got Start 10 for $4.99. It gives you several options for the entire desktop nuances and preferences, AND, gives you several designs to use for the Start Menu. I went with a modified W10 Start menu that is basically a W7 menu, but with W10 "art" style.

I would read about all the updates if they made it easier. Now you have to google the kb number, which is easy but not simple enough.

No, in the list awaiting you, click on the "learn more" or something like that. It opens up web page explaining the update. So far, MS is still very upfront on those pages telling you which ones you will bendover for. It takes about a minute per update...and time well spent if you object to their control tactics.
