It's "Feedback."

What you just described is exactly the issue. Microsoft has a huge disconnect between itself and it's users. One day, this will cost them. It will not be immediate. I can remember another such company... "Yahoo." I wonder how they are doing?

I have a vested interest in keeping Microsoft alive. It brings my state tons of money and pays a lot of taxes here. So I'd very much urge you to not think of me as an enemy of Microsoft, as I'm anything but. I think it's killing itself from the inside.
Well i am the "feedback" to your tin foil hat opinion.

BTW i detest being watched etc on my PC but i know how to disable things, those who don't really care just don't care.

Yep, issue here is your opinion is largely unfounded and I didn't "buy" it in any sense, but oh well. It's the internet. One person's "tin foil hat" is another persons common sense.

PS: I don't really care about microsofts "spy" stuff anymore than I care about it on Android. I just wish MS would cut the crap and admit it's an ad-data farm and make the OS free. My main objection is with UWP, something I don't even touch on here.

Law means nothing when the server the stuff is hosted on is illegally compromised. Microsoft can swear an oath to privacy and none of that matters when their hands are forced. They are also generally only obligated by law to provide identity monitoring for like a year or three when it happens. Tell me sir, how long do you plan to keep your money?

Again, there is a reason identity theft is at an all time high. Newsflash: It isn't credit card skimmers.

I don't know, my father loosing a good portion of his retirement money due to a hospitals data fuckup might have made me aware of this, but don't worry, that's just the tinfoil hat talking...

I do take privacy seriously. I have my reasons. I think the way our culture handles data is sick. But that's not even where I take issue with Windows 10, as I've repeatedly pointed out. The cat is way out of the bag there. Doesn't mean we shouldn't note that the cat has now climbed up the tree and call it out as such... but I doubt it can be fixed easily. So I gave up on that.

Jesus Christ man, you have absolutely no empathy beyond what sits in front of your keyboard do you? You do realize that people on the internet are in fact, people?

What the fricking hell do gun laws have to do with any of this?

All I know is that we lost well over what you have probably made to date, and fun fact, in America, when your identitiy is compromised you can NEVER e-file again. The IRS demands you submit your taxes manually, and trust me, it's a PITA every year and you basically have to hire a tax person to do this. That's right, you can NEVER go back to normal tax filing. And that's after you got robbed.

If you want to call this a "first world problem" then go ahead. I subscribe to the concept of a "Sphere of influence." I can't save all the starving children in Africa. I can try to make the world better for me and my immediate family and general career.

That's because it affects everyone.

At any rate, this is so inappropriately, grossly OT that I will recuse myself from this genersously termed "discussion."

And yes, I will admit I had my part in that OT drive. My apologies to the mods.

Yeah except those without a hint of either of the two out comes. Selfish is selfish... i can't help them either and i never said you have bad intent too, i just think you are too in deep with your mind and blind in some ways, this also appears with this Windows fiasco you keep going on about. Normal people mostly do not give a crap ;)

I beg to differ, the average computer user is ignorant of how or what the O.S. does, they just want it to work.
Of course they give a crap, once they are aware.

@Recon-UK I just read a full page of bile that spewed forth from your mouth while you willfully or blissfully chose to ignore @R-T-B's main point: Microsoft has an effective monopoly, but despite that, they still have an obligation to solicit and/or.accept FEEDBACK from the people who pay their salaries. To not do so is the height of hubris, and monopoly or not, they cannot continue as such forever.

Stop making excuses for them and beating down anyone who says anything negative about M$. In doing so, you are the modern equivalent of the hired thugs at the end of the 19th century who gleefully beat down workers attempting to form labor unions bc the companies they worked for willfully took advantages that were not theirs to take.

No i think what this is i just don't get what the hell any of you are talking about with this whole monopoly thing. I don't know a single OS better than Windows for the normal consumer, especially one who's preference is to game with a computer. So i guess a widely supported OS is just monopoly.

Well, no one denied that Windows is the best platform for gaming. Being the best at something however, does not equate to a license for a person or an entity to do as they please.

As to MS being effectively a monopoly, I'm not going to insult your intelligence by giving you the economic definition, because I know you're a smart guy. You can find it.

It makes it hard to isolate what they're doing to your computers. They now will have carte blanche to inject all of the crap that they want to.
I remember when Windows Update was introduced with Win98SE waaay back in the 90s there were people who didn't trust it for exactly these reasons. They were laughed at for being tinfoil hatters, but now look at what's happening. My only surprise is that it took this long.

I avoided it for a while, but then used it after I better understood the security risks inherent in having access to the internet.

Well if the argument i was supposedly replying to is about the removal of any kind of consent to do stupid things that affect customers then i stand accused of being a bit of a fuckwit and talking nonsense so for that i apologise.
Long day and had no sleep too so i may be way in over my head and missed a few key points.

I remember in 1998 when MS was brought before a Senate Panel and testified when the Department of Justice wanted them split up for being a monopoly and testimony from respected people in the field that breaking MS up would harm the economy and MS walked away from the allegations.

The thing is that MS is in a position to do pretty much whatever they want without any real reprisals and that has made me a bit wary of MS over the years. When I think about the hundreds of millions of people around the world that know Windows OS for their PC and nothing else and the reluctance to a change like Linux, if they've ever even heard of it, and the nightmare that it would be for IT depts to implement Linux and Apache Open Office then I can't fathom a meaningful change from Windows in business. MS is so ingrained in business and our lives that it is improbable that we can root them out now.

If you are not running a server you can get by without any updates if you don't have any malware files on your PC, most of the security updates are issued concerning remote code execution which allow a program or a embedded code in office files to gain privileges they shouldn't. I know many people who have automatic updates turned off because of the bandwith issues and because they are just pain in the ass with the whole update process. And they don't update their Windows regularly, few times a year.

I installed Windows 7 and I waited one day to check for updates with no success. Now I am just going to use AutoPatcher to do offline update but this tells tales about the inefficient Windows Update, if I could only see what is Windows doing all this time. I would think Windows had better Update process given how many millions of users they have.

Meh, I could've handled it better too. "Lack of sleep" may have been a factor on both sides.

No hard feelings.

I see it as a means of them sneaking in updates we have previously removed and hidden.
Will we still have the ability to see what each update is and what affect it has on our computer before installing, or are we stuck installing a batch and hoping for the best?

Arguable. GWX (gone now) and telemetry could be questionable (though I disagree with that, personally, though MS could have handed that better for sure), but everything else is there for a good reason, which is more or less plugging the security hole no. 99999999 or fixing specific software bug.
