So I decided that I would give Game Pass another shot. I really wanted to play Gears5 and waited the 4+ hrs to install the 90+ GBs of data. I saved the game to my I drive as I don't want nor need that much data on my C drive. I try to run the game and I get a Windows pop up screen with the message "Windows Store Package Dependency Installer". When I click on yes the Window closes and nothing happens. I tried to find the folder and run the exe from the game folder but I do not have permissions to change that folder I can't even adjust the admin rights in the advanced tab either anyone have any advice?

As for download location you need to set:

New apps will save to...

you can also set

Windows blocks user from changing anything with those folders, once you set them to anything different than C: you won't be able to access the folder after you reinstall windows. Only workaround for this that worked for me was to format the partition.

This extreme level of denial of user access/control is beyond any level decency. MS being MS again, and the reason why I will never get any of my games through the MS Store.

Not only that, but the games seem to be extraordinarily bloated. Sure, our drives are large now and space is not usually a problem, but MS seems determined to change that all on their own.

I have three Forza games and they weigh a lot which makes downloading quite a chore if you install a new drive or change the mobo etc. I have even booted to WinPE on occasions to get over the permissions malarky, moved the folder (if you can pinpoint the correct folder) to the chosen drive, then pointed the installer to it. But no, it insists on downloading all over again.
You can go into settings and move a program/game, but that's it. There's no discovery like Steam and other clients, so I can only conclude that it's MS's over the top anti-piracy policy or some other such bullshit.
EDIT
I forgot to mention that you'll need to be logged into the XBox Console Companion and/or XBox Beta apps, or the game won't run.

If you need dependencies maybe there are updates waiting in the Store ? Reinstall "Xbox (Beta)" maybe ?

Don't lose too much time playing around with the WindowsApps folder containing the XGP games guys or you will just lose time :)
All the files inside are encrypted the way if you change .exe of a game, the game won't even launch because their apps will see it's corrupted or not encrypted.
I wanted to patch Shenmue I&II to remove the borderlines in 16:9 so I tried with Windows 7 in a VirtualBox VM.

I did a raw disk image to put the physical disk inside the VM. To do so you create an image which is not really a disk image but more like a link making your disk accessed by the VM. My physical HDD was numbered 5 in the Diskpart list so I just did the link typing this command : "C:\Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox>VBoxManage.exe internalcommands createrawvmdk -filename "c:\Users\YourUsername\.VirtualBox\physical-sdc.vmdk" -rawdisk \\.\PhysicalDrive5" in an admin CMD prompt then I did put my disk offline for Win10 : CMD is diskpart -> list disk -> select disk5 (cause the drive where my XGP games are is the n°5) -> offline.
I then added this .vmdk disk in my Win7 VM, took ownership of WindowsApps and all the folders were green, encrypted...so I decided to patch those Shenmue .exe but 7904SEGAEuropeLtd.Shenmue-GamePass_zs7esxpzd8d5c access was denied xD Few days before when I messed around with audits in Win10 I could open and see the content even if I couldn't copy/paste, add, remove anything.
I was oh well I will try another game to see. I did open the ReCore folder (another game) and I did cut/paste the .exe then put it back for a test.
Removed the image disk, put the drive back online for Windows 10, opened Xbox (beta), launched ReCore...it was a nope, white screen. I did try to repair it in the Windows settings -> apps list and I laughed. Instead of repairing it I had to download the whole game again because the ReCore game files were somehow wiped for whatever reason I cannot explain. I noticed the 17Gb fresh free space from the disk and I just had the choice to install the game again, so, download progression xD

Yeah those XGP files are heavily (well) protected, yeah they don't want people crack those games that are inside this vault, yeah it sucks cause we cannot mod games. When pirates manage to crack those XGP games just look at the things to do to be able to play them it's just crazy.

Thanks everybody for your posts. I tried it again over the weekend and the game worked.:laugh: is all I can say about Game Pass.

I got a XBGP free trial with my RX 570 purchase. I downloaded Forza Horizon 4, and it wouldn’t work until I moved the game files to a different drive, then it worked fine. MCC has never worked. It crashes at the menu screen, only the music continues to play, making it the largest MP3 download in history. I would never pay for this service (at least on PC,) and it’s no wonder UWP has never gotten off the ground. These type of problems have existed on the MS Store since Windows RT.
