Microsoft Introduces Copilot for Gaming

Frankly I don't share all the pessimism around the youth here, but even I agree this feature looks a.) largely unwanted and b.) probably detracts from the experience the same way cheating past obstacles did when you were all growing up.

Time is really a circle.

The modern audience will use this as they have the attention span and patience of a gnat.

We literally had game genies, gamesharks, sketchy cheat apps and what have you to bypass challenges back in the day and they were very popular. Don't act like your generation did not have lazy moments.

This is really just an AI repackage of what all generations asked for. Yeah, it sucks more but what can you do. Gotta check the "AI" box for marketing.

I would ban Copilot for competitive online games.

You can be sure that they will find a way to invent a cheat with AI.

It is up to the developer to choose whether to support Copilot or ban Copilot...

All new features released in the last 10 years for Windows 10 and 11 are completely OPTIONAL.
Windows Defender, the Edge browser and number of other "features" would like to have a word with you.
(the implication there being that those and many others can NOT be removed by the user without forced efforts that 98% of the public don't know about)

Why would I uninstall Edge? It won't make the slightest difference to take 500MB of space off my 1TB SSD.

And it doesn't run in the background, I disabled that in Edge's own settings.

Disabling Defender would be stupid, I've never thought about it, but I could if I wanted to because all of its features have the option to disable it.

And people who install viruses need to disable Defender in order to install the virus, otherwise Defender won't let them. I've come across many cases like this.

I asked people and Defender warned them, they said yes and that they needed to disable Defender in order to install.

Then the person got infected and I had to format because ransomware and keyloggers were installed.

So only a complete and stupid ignoramus would disable Defender.

Imagine if I were to buy an Android and want to disable Google Chrome and the security that scans for malicious apps?

Imagine buying an iPhone, uninstalling Safari and activating developer mode so you can install apps outside the store without any security?

These are things that only an idiot would do, and I'm not an idiot. I have to deal with idiots all the time and I have to fix their idiocies because they ruin your Windows, Android and iOS by disabling essential security services.

And that's the second facepalm for me.

I don't know how old you are but at a guess I'd say 13-16. People younger than that don't usually have a TPU account and those older are usually more aware of how much they don't know and a less inclined to blatantly display their ignorance. I kind of envy you, being at that age where everything you know is the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. :ohwell:

Why would I uninstall Edge?
Because it's Chrome based, made by microsoft and included by force. How do you not get this? I mean are you kidding with that?
And it doesn't run in the background, I disabled that in Edge's own settings.
Oh yeah, because we can trust microsoft.. News flash, if the European Union doesn't trust microsoft, why would any of the rest of us have any reason to?
So only a complete and stupid ignoramus would disable Defender.
Says the person who doesn't understand how the real world works. You do know there are OTHER security suites available for the public, right?
Imagine if I were to buy an Android and want to disable Google Chrome and the security that scans for malicious apps?
And YOU are calling anyone else a "stupid ignoramus"?
These are things that only an idiot would do, and I'm not an idiot.
Oh?

Good grief this nonsense.. It's like discussing calculus with a belligerent 9 year old..

Yes please let us know when you facepalm everything I write

and try to guess my age every time

I am very offended

do this more often

I am waiting

I call it "black and white syndrome". Usually manifests in late childhood to eary youth in people with good living conditions, i.e. a family loving parents and no money issues, that are perceived by others in their age group as being "smart" and/or "knoledgeable" about technical subjects, but nor nerdy enough to be isolated from the general age group. They are repeatedly told they're smart by peers and family but don't undestand the actual value of beeing called so by them (later in life they'll find out there are truly smart smart people in the world and they're not nearly as smart as they thought). As a result they're convinced of their general intelligence and lacking the capacity of perceiving the complexity of the world and the age experience to compensate for it they see it all as "so simple" (thus black and white) and don't understand how everyone else can be so stupid as to not see the simplicity. Now if this sound familiar it should because it is something every teenager experiences in some degree. I only call it a syndrome when the subject is so convinced of their intelligence and knowledge that they begin to behave publicly as if they're the smartest and most well informed person in the room regardless of evidence to the contrary.

Oh my god, Microsoft installed its browser by default on its operating system?? We should call the FBI, CIA and KGB to investigate this misconduct. May Microsoft be fined $1 trillion for this unacceptable misconduct.

In the Edge options, there is an option to disable it in the background. And there is also the option to disable it completely if you want.

If you don't trust anything from Microsoft, then why do you use Windows?

Your mission on earth given by God is to use Windows by force and criticize it every time. I've seen people in mental institutions who are more stable than you.

I am very offended
You say that while at the same time insulting everyone who does things their own way instead of the microsoft way while also failing to understand basic context.

Where do you think you went wrong, hmm?

Oh my god, Microsoft installed its browser by default on its operating system??
And giving us no way to remove it without forcible methods. :shadedshu:

KGB? WTF was that? :fear:
May Microsoft be fined $1 trillion for this unacceptable misconduct.
Well hey, at least you got ONE thing right.
I've seen people in mental institutions who are more stable than you.
LOL! Been to one frequently, eh? I believe it! I wouldn't know, never been to one.

Please help me, I need psychiatric help.

Help me stop expressing my opinion that offends you so much.

I need help, I'm suffocating

If Windows offends you, just don't use it.

Linux is there for that, for people who feel offended by the existence of Windows.

But instead of using Linux, you worry about the people who are using Windows and liking it.

I just read the headline "Microsoft Introduces Copilot for Gaming" about 45 seconds before typing this.

My immediate reaction was my eyes widened, I recoiled from my monitor and I swallowed nervously.

Sure signs that Microsoft has a brand problem.

It's very simple. TPU is frequented a lot of people smarter than you and me and with a lot more experience to draw from and when they tried to point out your mistakes you reacted by almost literally call them stupid. You're flaunting what looks to us like ignorance and doing so in a way that's considered anywhere from impolite to outright offensive. Coming from someone less obviusly ignorant that could be taken as trolling but think for a second where you are.

In any case, this is way off-topic already and like I said I'm not here to cure ....

What a digression this thread has become. Can we denigrate any additional subsets of people before it gets locked down?

@Darmok N Jalad
Personally, I am very egalitarian and hate and denigrate all groups of people equally.

However, to bring this thread slightly more on topic, I absolutely will denigrate people who would unironically use this “feature” more than I usually do. Frankly, I don’t really see the point? It’s not particularly easier or faster than just searching up a guide or a walkthrough. And if the game you are playing is obscure to the point of not having those this, hm, “AI” would not be of help since, well, there’s no content from the web for it to scrape. Overall, another pointless marketing feature based on the hype around “AI” and the fact that an average user understands the technology he or she engages with about as much as an average flat-earther understands astronomy. Or, you know, insert your own joke.

Agreed, they have many problems. Windows is a mere shadow of what it was just 15 years ago. It's become a joke that only fools trust in it's default state. This article about copliot is a step in a bad direction.

Aim bots have been around for ages! I recall the days of Quake II MP, where one of the common aimbots had code built into it where, if you typed “ratbot” in the console, it would rat out the cheater. Those were the days. :D

Copilot: the aimbot to rule all aimbots.

Regardless of how hard I've laughed, Xbox Copilot will sell. There are a lot of "busy" parents with 6-12y old children and disposable income that would rather pay Copilot than stop watching TV or whatever to spend time indulging in their children's curiosity. And the children will learn to live with Copilot in their lives so their children will have Copilot too.

TBH the whole idea is genius to the point of evil. :respect:

I dunno, I have my doubts, TBH. People who have PCs also likely have phones. I’d rather do that search independent of the game platform so there’s no screen overlay, task switching (which can crash games), or resource fighting. Also, Xbox as a brand isn’t really all that. PS5 outsells XboxSX by huge margins, for example, and on PC, platforms like Steam are way more popular for game purchases. I guess maybe the Gamepass is there, but even MS is diminishing the Xbox brand by offering few reasons to buy. I’m actually curious how younger generations view the Xbox brand. Perhaps like from my day, where the Nintendo was the console of choice for those with the means, and Genesis was a distant second. I had a Genesis, but at least my buddy had a SNES.

Microsoft doesn't need to sell a lot of Xboxes to keep making Xboxes.

Its Xbox brand is designed to develop games for the Cloud/Xbox/Windows.

Developers don't need to focus on one platform because game development is universal.

xCloud is a parallel Xbox SX offering a single gaming session.
Xbox SX is a Windows 11
PC is a Windows 11

Linux can dominate the PC or MacOS can dominate the PC, it will continue to release its games for Xbox or xCloud or whatever because games are universal.

Well you can't blame just the kids for that ~ today's parents spend 2-5x as much time on their phones/hobbies or work than on their kids! And when it comes to punishment, oh it'll break the kids :shadedshu:

I'm not in favor of going bonkers when it comes to punishing/correcting kids but parents these days just treat them with way too much of "kid" gloves nearly all the time! Maybe save more time for your kids.
need to start beating the parents.
