Microsoft Pulls Windows 10 October 2018 Update

This is why postponing update is important, set mine to 3 months

1803 failed again. So I set Windows update for another 30 days. After that I’ll see what state the hopefully fixed 1810 is. If it’s good, I’ll fresh install 1810 and get another year with no feature updates.

Or go back to 8.1. :p

Could always try the latest LTSB..

I never seem to have any problems with this, possibly because all my user folders are on a separate hard drive. The articles I read suggested it only causes problems with installs that have user folders stored on the C: drive. This is something like 98% of users, so it's a pretty damn big problem. Just not one that affects me, thankfully!

You mean the libraries, like docs, pics, etc? I do this too. First thing I do on a fresh install, back to W7.

Yeah, first thing I do is set the library locations to my personal files drive. Saves a lot of time, so I don't have to copy everything over. Only programs get installed on my C: drive, all my games go on a separate storage drive.

This just made me laugh, talk about a total F up.

I think its clear to say that W10 is now officially the worst MS OS in recent history, isnt these updates meant to "fix" issues and of course add new features not screw up things which it has done over and over again in the past, how many yrs has 10 been out for? like come on! this is ridicules. I wonder why im getting more and more people wanting to roll back to 7 or even 8/8.1 even on there brand new PC's because this kind of incompetence is just not exceptable in this day and age.

This is so convenient, this being my first windows 10 installation. It was a clean install and no visible problems but news like these are seriously stopping me from installing 10 on my home machine.
Does this warning apply to a fresh direct installation of Windows 10 1809 or only if you update a previously installed version?

Same for me. I've only been on it for two weeks now from a fresh install and am getting BSOD while in MP games. I knew I was going to regret this W10 BS.

Man I don't understand, I must be one of the lucky ones or something, I have had windows 10 and Pro version installed on 5 different PC's Build's and never had an issue with it.

I don't use any third party overclocking software or overclock any of my PC's (well I have in the past overclocked but just for testing/fun, but not kept anything overclocked of any amount of time)
maybe that has help me with not having issues ? i dont know?

I haven't either, but I do fresh installs.

That said, it still sucks. Data loss is just.... a whole new level of fubar.

yeah same here I always do fresh install which I guess is not best for a lot of people

but losing data and moaning because you didn,t back it up?
To me is like going for a long drive with no petrol and being angry with the petrol station because you run out of petrol lol

come on hands up who's gone for a long drive while low on petrol, then run out of petrol and phone the petrol station to tell them it's their fault and demand compensation

that's how I see it lol

Dunno if it's been posted, but this is truly epic:

"The October 2018 Update tried to tidy up this situation. When KFR is being used, the October 2018 Update will delete the original, default Known Folder locations. Microsoft imagined that this would simply remove some empty, redundant directories from your user profile. No need to have a Documents directory in your profile if you're using a redirected location, after all. The problem is, it neither checked to see if those directories were empty first, nor copied any files to the new, redirected location. It just wiped out the old directory, along with anything stored within it. Hence the data loss."

That'd how you do it if you're a multibillion-dollsr software giant who's been writing complex software for decades.

I'm glad it was something so stupid and fixable.. but it's still crazy that they could overlook something like that.

Earlier this week, Microsoft pushed out its monthly set of updates to various versions of Windows 10, including version 1809. It seems, however, that this patch carries its own major problems. Users all over the internet are reporting that their devices are getting into a blue screen of death (BSOD) after the update, preventing them from booting.
The error message displayed says "WDF_VIOLATION", which refers to the Windows Driver Framework. The problem seems to mostly affect HP users, and it relates to a driver file found on the company's computers, 'HpqKbFiltr.sys'. Many of those affected reported that deleting this file solved their problems and that the devices work normally.

The problem doesn't seem to affect just the feature update released last week, but users on the April 2018 Update are apparently facing similar issues. While most people reporting the error are using HP devices, Neowin user Mike Steel heard from Microsoft's support that it actually affects other brands as well and that the patch has since been pulled from Windows Update.

I had nothing but problems with the 1803 update/upgrade and found it was just easier to do a clean install of it which went perfectly fine

I update 4 out of 5 of my Machines. No issues.

I put this on user error.

yes the os with the windows 3.1 U.i. still in 2018

lol

I like windows 10 never had any issues with it really, how ever few days back, I was bored so decide to play around with a few different O/S distro's

Ubuntu, Mint, OpenSuse

I finally settled for OpenSuse, which in turn has made me realize I don't really need windows 10 anymore (please don't take that as people don't need windows 10)

I'm not saying I wont go back to Windows 10 but to be fair to OpenSuse i probs dont need anything more.

Windows 10 has a lot to offer, but it also has alot i don't need, so OpenSuse is a good o/s for me to learn to use.

After sticking with OpenSuse it feels like Microsoft are using my PC for more than I do lol
