I have a lot of ms word files on my pc. But one of them showed me an error - Getting unknown error messages while opening (.doc) or (.docx) files. I don't know how to open my word file or repair microsoft word. Any suggestions, guys, please.

Have you tried using Libre Office?
https://www.libreoffice.org/

It can open most Microsoft document formats.

I know this is obvious but asking just to check: have you already installed the Microsoft Office Compatibility pack? Most likely this isn't your issue since the problem is with both .doc and .docx files. If all else fails, are you able to reinstall Office? Removing and reinstalling shouldn't touch any of your saved Word documents.

Even Word 2007 is outdated and incompatible with the newer versions.
I'm not sure but I think there is an online version you can use for free if you have a Microsoft account.

Is it just one file, or all your word files?

With the exception of Outlook, I have yet to find a reason to stop using Office 2000, 2003, and 2007. They open all the latest files just fine, and they work just fine.

I'm still using Office 2003 with the MS Office Compatibility pack and it opens all the old and new extensions (.docx, .xlsx, etc.) perfectly fine as well as saves the documents to which ever revision you'd prefer. It isn't as polished looking as Office 2007 and above but it does the job. What I didn't care for was MS changing some of the shortcut keystroke combos.

In this order:
-Try this compatibility pack
-Reinstall Office 2003 (and compatibility pack)
-Try OpenOffice instead
-If you really don't want OpenOffice, buy new version of Microsoft Office

In the past year or so I've noticed another quirk where a downloaded Word document or other Office document won't open regardless of the steps I take to open them. After deleting the file and re-downloading the document it opens without issue. I've been using Chrome almost exclusively so I'm not sure if I've experienced this with Explorer or Firefox. So one last step to try might be to obtain another copy of your files if they are being generated and fetched externally to your system (ie. try downloading them again as the file might have simply been corrupted).
