mobile gpu bios problem

didnt work laptop wouldnt post, put back on original bios chip fired right up
is there a way to alter the bios file to make it support the 765m
i know people used to do it for cpus back in the day not sure if the same would apply for gpus

Yeah maybe hex editor, and a spi flasher.

But with all trouble you may just find the compatible line of mxm gpus with the JZ board

...the gpu detects in windows seems to be working but im unable to install drivers refuses any and all ways a try to install them...

Unpack your favourite driver with 7zip
Last series that can be modded for Kepler is R470

Open NVCleanstall
  • select "use driver files from disk", navigate to the setup.exe of the unpacked driver
  • select components to install
  • select "add hardware support" under installation tweaks
  • select name, then ID (the hex number from the right)
  • select a GPU as template which is most similar to the target GPU (in your case a GTX 965M)

thank you i will give that a go shortly

they are available on ebay but at $250+ i cant justify spending such an amount on a gpu thats so old

its a no go on the nvcleaninstall
drivers fail to install looks like im stuck trying to get my hands on an 800 series card since thats what the new board originally came with

compatible hardware not found

You still did not upload a GPU-Z screenshot so we do not know your device id - 11E1 or 11E2?
What did you use under "add hardware support" in NVCleanstall?

Try hotfix 471.22 - confirmed by an ASUS laptop user: "Working great so far on GTX 765M."

gpuz only picks up the intel integrated gpu does not detect the gtx i tried both the 471.22 and the driver provided by asus for the laptop
im pretty sure its due to a bios mismatch between the laptop bios and the gpu
nowhere online can i find a asus g750jz paired with a gtx 765m only 800 series gpus

so as far as uploading a image of gpuz theres nothing to upload it doesnt show the gtx at all only the intel hd4600

lets just go with im an idiot here you go

Have you found any 800 mxm designed GPUs.

link is bad
works for me

i have but i dont have 250 to throw away on a gpu thats untested
I saw a few 880m on ebay for 219-229, the 870 are around 160-180.

given the age of this laptop its not worth spending so much on such an old gpu just to find out it may not work

I found this on notebook review forums. Its a dying forums and I old post but maybe they might help out there. The 780m and 880m are the same graphics card, only difference is the 880m runs a little higher clock speed, maybe 5% higher.

heres a pic of gpuz after the above drivers were installed

the laptop original model was G750JW
i replaced the motherboard with a G750JZ motherboard
so i guess its going up on ebay for parts as im not going to spend the money on another gpu when all the ones listed are being sold as untested and over $200 with tax and shipping

Yet you spent money on a mobile motherboard "thats so old"...

I would of sold the 765 as a JW only part and got the 800 card.

Also remember laptop parts will always be higher.

I bought a M18 GPU for 500 after a failed pipeline unlock back in 2006.

i just found an as is 870m untested for just under $40 thats a price i can live with versus spending $250 on an untested as is 880m
i dont mind spending a few bucks here and there just when the only parts available are super overpriced and not promised to work that i have an issue

i guess in a few days i will find out

If you buy through ebay or amazon you have money back guarantee if part is bad.

The 870m is better overall than the 880m, the 880m ran so hot.
