Mozilla Firefox 4 Launch Date is March 22

After the much hyped Internet Explorer 9 launch, it's time for the open-source Firefox to get its facelift. Mozilla has decided to launch the stable version of Mozilla Firefox 4 on the 22nd of March. Firefox 4 is a single-process web-browser that runs plugins in separate container processes. It will be up to date with the latest in web standards, including HTML5, will feature a much faster Javascript engine, and will use GPU hardware acceleration to speed up rendering. March 22 is turning out to be quite a day for the tech sphere, with NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 590 graphics accelerator, and EA/Crytek's self-proclaimed blockbuster game release, Crysis 2, also releasing on the same day.

While it is a big leap forward from version 3.x, I still find that Firefox 4 is lacking as a browser.
I find it sluggish with 200 bookmarks loaded in and for heavy tab users it's just needlessly time consuming to scroll through the tabs.
I've switched to Google Chrome since Firefox 3.6 took several seconds to load up a page and even though I can find a lot of flaws in Chrome so far, I still prefer it compared to the alternatives.

i'm on FF4 RC1, it might as well be the final. Very stable, very fast.

Only flaw is that with hardware acceleration enabled, text goes blurry - seems to be an ATI driver issue, nvidia doesnt have it (and intel dont have it due to lack of hardware acceleration suport)

Hmmm what ATi driver are you using?

I had blurry text too but it sorted it's self out after I updated CAT to the latest version.


By the by is FFs java engine multi threaded like IE 9?

Try turning off MLAA

I havent had that problem. Maybe update to 11.4, and make sure you got the latest flash.

I was all ready to switch to chrome, then I found out there's no download helper plugin. Big deal breaker. Then I found out none of the scrolling plugins can fix the crappy way chrome handles scrolling. Smooth wheel is still king. If I'm going to switch browsers I can't be giving anything up.

I wonder how this will fair against the new IE9 in terms of speed.
When I tested the IE9 on my system, it was the fastest to open and display a saved web page, and when I say fast, I mean instantaneous!
Chrome was 2nd fastest, although I don't like it that much, Opera 3rd, and Firefox by far the slowest.

I hope FF4 will end the days of Firefox being a RAM hog. FF has gone from originally being the fastest & smallest, to being the slowest and biggest (although I still use it most).wtf:
I'm more or less just waiting for well refined Opera plugins to be developed at this point and then the rest becomes history.

I havent had that problem. Maybe update to 11.4, and make sure you got the latest flash.

I'm on cat 11.4, flash isnt related to the problem. turning cleartype off makes it worse, not better.

With wide-gamut monitors all over the place, soon people will find the gaudy colors are retina-burning. Firefox is the only browser on Windows that has real color management.

Or buy a Mac.

You click the orange firefox button, it's all there instead.

Means more room for tabs! YEAH!

As for copying, it's actually just an implementation of what was a plugin for fire fox that's been around for years. Mini menu or something, I can't remember been using the beta to long.

I'm using a plugin that hides them both, and brings up the old menu on pressing alt, but isn't there an option to revert the new FF button to the old menu bar as well?

Alternatively you can right click the a "white" space under the address bar and check off bookmarks and it comes in where all your other quick link bookmarks are.
