Hello everyone,

After pulling every trick in the book without compromising the integrity of the graphics card alone, including a full reformat, I can say with displeasure that a new card is in order. UNLESS: you have a solution based off of similar experiences.

After receiving my MSI RX 6800 XT Gaming X Trio, I immediately went to work on enjoying all the latest games. Little to my knowledge, the card was becoming problematic over time and even hindering with the stability of my OS's system files until the wrath of it all began. Several SFC Checks later, it finally KO'ed the drive. Good thing I keep my files on a separate drive! After a reformat, I felt the problem may have been solved, but of course no good performance of a misfit is complete without a comeback. The screen will go blank with feed, forcing a need to restart, and sometimes my BIOS forces me to put my motherboard in Compatibility Support Mode just to cope with this piece of crap!

Either help me, or tell me to save myself from this card. I cannot believe MSI cards are THIS BAD TO WORK WITH.

MSI is biased against AMD, MSI is low quality junk.

Id send it back for a Sapphire Pulse

MSI sucks the big one when it comes to AMD cards, they favor nVidia. For AMD cards, look at XFX, PowerColor and Sapphire as these are exclusive AMD AIB's, much like how eVGA, Palit, etc are more or less favored over pricier MSI, Gigabyte and Asus (unless you're willing to spend more for them). I have a PowerColor Vega 64 (about 2 years now) and an Sapphire RX 6900 XT, both have been pretty solid thus far. Even my one nVidia card, Leadtek GTX 1080 Hurricane OC, is from an nVidia exclusive AIB.

Heck AsRock makes a better card then MSI, Dont Forget Visiontek, HIS Digital, Dataland, Yeston

Whoa. I remembered how the 5770 Hawk was awesome. Things really have changed.

Wait wait wait... You have a 6 year old PSU in that system that was iffy when it was new. How does a GRAPHICS CARD corrupt a hard drive?!? That is very unlikely since these are two components that basically do not interact. Graphics cards do not corrupt SSDs.

Also the drivers are stock AMD drivers - I get all the hate for MSI here but you literally had an SSD die on you and are now having blank screen issues with the system... Could it be that your power supply is about to take a dirt nap due to the additional load and is taking components out in the process? That seems much more likely than the 6800xt... and that does require like 2x more power than the 1060 did.

The only thing that can 'kill' an ssd is bad power. Bad power will also hang a system and force restarts/ safe mode. Maybe time to ditch that 6 year old PSU:

Can you elaborate? like they purposely make their AMD products suck?
- The 'MSI rep' twitter bullshit that comes around once in awhile, although the credibility of that is questionable.
- MSI was all over the Geforce Partner Program not too long ago
- No effort at all in creating cooling solutions that fit the AMD product, but rather re-use something off the shelf.
- Late to market
- AMD product not available in higher product tiers of MSI coolers.

Lately though MSI has been going full yolo with their product line ups, they created tons of different ones like Armor, Ventus, Trio... so its anyone's guess where everything is truly positioned now. I'll definitely think twice before jumping on a new MSI card even if past experiences (on Nvidia) were fantastic. Its clear the bait and switch has begun here.

And let's not even begin to mention the 'smaller' problems they've had on Nvidia recently along with their eagerness to tag along in price bumps.

I'm no fan of MSI but your point makes more sense than the OP's thinking, I have never ever seen a GPU corrupt an SSD.
And on a fundamental level, the CPU and system control read writes to drive's.
The GPU at this time has zero access to or influence of any drive in the system.

PSU!?.

MSI favors Nvidia, because 95% of their GPU sales are Nvidia cards.
Asus and Gigabyte favors Nvidia too. Nothing new here. Nvidia cards earns them the most money, by far, ofc they are going to focus on them. Any company would do that.

80-90% of people that buy AMD GPUs, but their low to mid-end stuff. Most succesful AMD chips in the last 5 years are RX480/470/580/570, low-end stuff. Good value, but low-end. Very very few people are splashing 500+ dollars on an AMD GPU. That's AMDs biggest problem when it comes to their GPU sales. Radeon VII going EoL after 6 months did not help this.

AMDs dGPU marketshare drops every quarter, pretty much , Nvidia sits at 83% now.

Intel soon enters dGPU market, and aims for low to mid-end segment; AMDs primary segment.

I would not be surprised if AMD dGPU marketshare is below 10% in a year or two. And this is EXACTLY the reason why MSI, Asus and Gigabyte is not prioritizing AMD cards...

AMD have been prioritizing CPUs and APUs over GPUs in the last 1-2 years. Thats why their dGPU marketshare is doing down. All their chips are made on TSMC 7nm and they can't deliver everything. They earn more from CPUs than GPUs; Business 101. Sad but true.

Meanwhile Nvidia gears up; Turing at 12nm TSMC + RTX 3000 on Samsung 8nm and TSMC 5-6nm for RTX 4000 series in ~9 months. Nvidia looks to grab 90%+ marketshare in the coming years, spitting chips out of several fabs, filling the GPU demand.

6700XT and 6800 + 6900 series are not bad, but AMD don't really want to sell you any. Because they make more money on CPU/APU sales + they have to fullfill deal with Sony/MS for console APUs.

MSI favors Nvidia,
MSI AMD cards offert great coolling and noise ratio that sometimes out performs cards from Sapphire, XFX, Gigabyte and Asrock, also their dual fan solutions perform as good as other brands triple fan solutions, so wtf you guys are on about ....?!

Whatever the OP had gone trough, might have been a result of a bad PSU or a short somewhere in the PC itself that overtime caused problems

Never said MSIs AMD cards are bad, I simply said their focus is on Nvidia cards.

Asus has several good AMD cards too, TUF series mostly the same regardless of AMD or Nvidia, and performs well on both

I mostly buy MSI or Asus and never had issues with them, I always read reviews before buying so

My last faulty card was a Sapphire Vega 56 Nitro.. Crashing/Freezing then black screen after a few weeks..

My last truly good AMD card was a PowerColor 7970, which did 1200 MHz on the core without any more voltage and 1600 on the memory. Oh boy, almost 10 years ago...

you say msi, asus and giga are pricier than EVGA...:roll::roll:

My nvidia GPU is fine though...
depends WHICH series, lol.

My nvidia GPU is fine though...

MSI is a top Nvidia AIB partner. Top 3 selling brand in the GPU segment, why would you even listen to a guy still using a 290 and FX8350 tho  you find stuff like that at the landfill :D

My nvidia GPU is fine though...
which one?

I have a few MSI Nvidia GPU's, latest stuff too. And out of all my current GPU's, my MSI are the worst next to the Zotac cards. Terrible backplates (graphene supposedly but poor heat transfer), oily, thermal pads that leak when hot and just overall bad value (gigabyte apparently has some issues on some of their GPU's of same issue with thermal pads). Surprisingly, the best 3080 I got is a Dell model one which is a dual fan and made by MSI. They put a lot of effort into that heatsink than they did on their own GPU's.

I mean yeah but then this Is a help thread not a MSI GPU debate.

I mean when someone says this:
MSI is low quality junk.
I feel the need to say something about this because for me it isn't true.

Never had an MSI AMD GPU, maybe it is true and maybe should MSI give some more luv to their AMD GPU's....

You could at least throw an opinion on the OP's issue as well, no?!.

You got a new card and things worked good for a while. Once things started to go bonkers you blame the card....that just sounds odd.

I'd strongly suggest doing some proper troubleshooting before instantly laying blame on a dGPU that has zero impact on the system's need to read/write data to your drives.

PSUs could be the problem, do you have a spare PSU to test with?
The GPU is a new piece of hardware. Do you have a spare GPU to test with?
I've personally had finicky issues with Windows 10, even after a fresh install, where things just crashed (BSOD) and I had to re-install again. I even had to unplug all other storage devices and only leave the drive that the OS would be installed on plugged in before Windows 10 would successfully install.

It sounds odd to outright blame a GPU when you yourself said, "...I immediately went to work on enjoying all the latest games."

Its hit/miss, that is the problem. Your examples are good ones but also RDNA2 exclusive. At the same time, part of the problem wrt AIB support was also AMD itself and their laissez faire approach. It gave Nvidia space for stuff like GPP.

Its wise to Judge each GPU model for itself - its not a no brainer like it was past Kepler for Nvidia cards with MSI. Even those four results you linked, while good, are also all over the place. The 6900xt is very strong, but the 6700?

Regardless - PSU certainly seems a more likely culprit here.

I feel the need to say something about this because for me it isn't true.
I am similarly compelled but for other topics :) . Never personally had an issue with MSI gear either, from what I gather this seems like a couple of bad signs or bumps along the road, rather than doing it on purpose, just my 2c.
