MSI 970/990 seem to have Identical vrms ?

"Apparently" the 970 doesn't support 220 watts yet the 2 boards are almost identical.

Msi doesnt have the vrm specs or phases.

What are you exactly doing?

Overclocking?

When MSI started calling everything Gaming it really made me feel they are not catered to the overclocker...

I believe they are both 8+2 phase.

I want to get a fx. I read something you can undervolt them a lot.

990 has pipe cooler on the vrm, there's no pipe on 970 ... vrm caps look differently from this distance (zoom needed) and the rest of the phases is hidden under the heatsink (they might as well have different integrated power circuits/mosfets).
Lower heatsink is wider (longer?) on 990 also

Well undervolting is easier than overclocking.

It all boils down to features between the 2, 990fx have 2 full speed peg 16 2.0 slots over the 970 series.

If you were ocing, I'd say the 990FX Sabertooth R2.0 or CH-IV, or a GA-UD3. They don't have RGB.

Sabertooth R3.0 has RGB though...

There are some minor layout adjustments, and that the 990 obviously uses the 990FX instead of the 970 northbridge but other than that they are mostly the same.

If you need something for a decent price the Asus 970 Pro Gaming/Aura is actually very good. Mine had no problems running my old FX 8150 @ 4.9-5GHz.

Sabertooth R3.0 has RGB though...

Im using the msi 970 gaming currently been rock stable. This model actually has 2 x PCIe 2.0 x16 slots

I was thinking getting a 9590 and just undervolting it.

Also note i always put fans on vrms and northbridge.

Probably is possible, I mean is that info for the latest bios version? They maybe using a custom bios for it too.

MSI doesn't sell a single thing I would trust a 9590 on. They use cheap garbage phases on everything in that series.

Depending on what bios your board came with you could be at the latest already, that cpu data table you had was for bios M.0, the bios are up to M.4 now, so I say update through each bios

It shipped with M.4 no worries there.

Ok your boad dhould support the 9370/9590 since its 4 versions ahead of M.0 Bios

Good luck. I had to run a fan over the CH5F and CH5F-Z to keep temps acceptable with a 9590. The phase array is so much better on those it isn't even funny.

Yes. I have yet to find a board in a standard case setup that had reasonable vrm temps with a stock 9590 at complete stock settings. Sabbertooth, ud7, ch5f it didn't matter they all were warmer than they should be. It only got worse with multiple gpus.

I don't recall if Vrm's are monitored or are they via Hardware monitoring software?

HWmonitor will tell you. Usually TMPIN the hotter one is the vrm.
