My Computer just turned itself off... o_0

Dan was probably asking more for the Windows updates that will auto reboot a PC after installation, and or a faulting component that added a event to the system log.

What you are looking for is something like this.
error.jpg

Where a event shows something like "Winlogon initiated a reboot of (your computers name) for the following reason"

And the events surrounding that event are those that confirm the installation of hotfixes.

Or the error log shows a application critical to the system had a faulting module or faulted and was unable to recover, so to protect the system/etc.... the system was shutdown.

an important clarification: he's been saying the PC shuts off, not that it restarts.

update any better mate today?

it just done it again. I'm seriously thinking its the PSU or maybe even the board. to eliminate RAM i'm going to run memtest whilst at work today.

I still think it's the PSU

I think so to. It used to happen a bit when i put in the Graphics but now it's happening a lot with the seagate in. going to remove the seagate and see if it improves. i just grabbed a sceenie of my event log:

eeeek just to add salt to the wound i just did a SMART on my samsung and got this:

The overall fitness for this drive is 24%.
The overall performance for this drive is 98%

watching speedfan now and no temp readings are going up, fans are going at a nice solid RPM

i was literally watching speedfan as it happened (yup it went off again) and no odd RPM or temp readings. although look at my voltage reading:

Can't really go by speedfan for voltages. But regardless, it does sound like a power issue. How much can you spend on a psu? lol.

but is that going to power everything i have already plus a new CPU upgrade later on, to a FX-62 (hopefully)

Should not have any issues. Look at the efficiency rate of the power supply as well.

EDIT: And the Antec is modular, if your into that sort of thing.

Also this may help:

Err... dweig. no. The Antec NEO HE 430W is capable of running two X1950PROs in Crossfire (but nobody does it). By no means it would be your PSU, the X1950PRO Ice Q Turbo AGP has many issues as many forum members pointed out. Some reason these HIS cards don't last very long and tend to have so many issues.

I repeat, the NEO HE is more than capable of powering 1 X1950PRO... one X1950PRO + Typical setup will only give you 300W of Power usage on average.

All credit goes to TK! You are awesome!

Nice find Grings! There yah go, either that or the Antec man!

i did see that OCZ but thought the artic would give me bigger headroom. but if the OCZ is a gooden then thats what it'll be.

all my rigs run on OCZ, and the stealthXstreme has a few bonuses: no bling LED lights, mostly silent fan (it becomes 'quiet' at about 300W load) and has about 90% effeciency.

I've also ran mine with GTX SLI on a 680i system once (my brothers old one) so trust me when i say it has power :)

I can't find any info on the Arctic Power psu. Like what it's rated for on the 12v lines. That's the most important thing to consider. I don't trust psus whos detailed specs cannot be easily found on the company's website.

The OCZ is capable of 35A total combined on the 12v rails. The NeoHE 430 is capable of 32A. Still more than enough for your rig.

That said, DO NOT skimp on the psu. it is the single most important component in your rig. Cheap/off-brand ones are not worth it. If the psu blows, it can take every single component in your system down with it.

I didn't read the whole thread, but I'd say it's a short circuit. I had a loose cabe come in contact with metal a couple times and my system just shot off like this also. Bundle all your extra cables up with zip ties. Maybe even put tape of the headers.

Did anyone ask if you tried th SP3 RC? It has issues that relate the the DCOM.

Well I don't believe it.
I really, really do not believe it.

I went off to work and said to my dad to have a free look around to see if he can find the problem so he decided to take my cover off one last time and reset all the cables, turns out he does have a multimeter and he takes the PSU out and has a good look at it (he was an electrician) and that turns out fine.
So anyway he resets all the cables, making sure they are all nicely snug and in well. Then he decides to give my computer a clean, grabs the vacuum cleaner and goes around and then he finds out that if he hold the nozzle over the CPU fan it goes around, so he has some fun with that. And then dust just explodes in to the air. The vacuum cleaner was pulling all the dust out and the fan was making it explode into loads of pieces. I thought my PC was nice and clean but it turns out it wasn't, I mean I go in their every month at least with a brush but admittedly I never went near the CPU because I couldn't get into it, my case is a very small case btw, not once did it occur to me to fit the small nozzle on the vacuum cleaner and use it.

So yea a nicely no dust computer and so far it hasn't turned itself off once

Wow, nice! I hope it stays that way for ya. Ya that dust gets caked into there sometimes; especially fine-mesh like fins for CPU Heatsinks.
Have you ever tried compressed air cans? Just don't tip them upside-down, & ur golden. I use them in conjunction with vacuum, works like a charm.

Tipping them upside-down works great as a bug exterminator. lol.

hahahaha, freeze the bugs solid, then flick them and they explode into pieces! Did that a few times omg. =/ sorry buggies

hey all me again

so yes it is doing it again, turns itself off. think of this as a bit of a bumpageto see if anyone else has any ideas and also if the OCZ posted above is still a good choice considering i have upgraded to a FX-62. If it is a good one i shall place the order tonight.

cheers guys for all your help on this one.

Ya got it sorted out now man been awhile since an update?
