stick the bad drive in the fridge for about 1hr then plug it back in and see if you can back up your hard drive - Its a real temporary fix but it has been known to keep the drives working long enough to recover some data from.

Make sure the naked drive isnt just shoved into the freezer though. put it in a sealed bag
+1. If anyone is tempted to skip that last bit, you should know that not doing this will cause heavy condensation to accumulate when it's removed from the freezer, which will kill the drive. So don't skip it.

The WORST hdd experience I ever had was two 2TB WD Greens failing within weeks of each other. Both were less than half a year old.

Green has not so good reputation, most go to blue than green.
