Need a Legacy Bios R9 270x

Just got a R9 270x for my Vostro 460 motherboard custom pc but no boot just black screen.I tested the card in my 7700k build and it works fine so I think it needs to have a legacy non-uefi bios flashed to it but, Powercolor doesn't have a switch on the card.I had this issue before with a R9 380 but the switch made it work. Dell won't release a newer bios than A06 and I sold the R9 380 due to the mining craze and got a 980ti that worked, then downgraded to a Gtx 980 Ftw due to cpu bottlenecking then sold that on ebay because of a good deal on a Gtx 1070 that also works. Now I swapped the Cpu out and wanted to make a budget build i5 2500,8gb ram,Vostro Mobo and the R9 270x but, it won't post and with the mining craze used gpu's are hard to find so I need this to work.

the Gpu model# is AXR9 270X 2GBD5-DHV2E/OC

I already extracted the bios using GPU-Z

Update the motherboard bios of the vostro first.

Look here for the correct bios too. Ensure you set the motherboard bios for pcie and not igp too.

You can try the bios files here but you may want to contact powercolor for correct bios and tools/instructions.

https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios...l=R9+270X&interface=&memType=&memSize=&since=

Since your card has no recovery switch I would definitely backup the card bios and label it with a name you can remember exactly, write it down, get the new file and write its name down too. Make sure the bios you get is csm or non uefi. Otherwise you may need to get a different card or upgrade your motherboard.

The bios of the motherboard already updated to the latest version A06. I emailed powercolor have not received a response and their website is really bad with no bios download section at all. It had no problem working with all the other cards I listed.

Is it easy to flash these cards on Nvidia I just drag the ROM onto the exe file and it does it for me.

  1. Save the original BIOS with GPU-Z
  2. Open it with VBE7.0.07b
  3. Save it with VBE7.0.07b using a different name
  4. Now you have a copy of the original BIOS and another copy with a different name
  5. The renamed original BIOS will now have the UEFI disabled
  6. Flash the renamed original BIOS to the card
  7. You're done
Flash on Nvidia? I have no idea what you're talking about there. But I recommend using ATIWinflash.

You need the correct tools to do such, look up for an AMD gpu bios update procedure. Follow directions to the t,

BACK UP THAT GPU BIOS BEFORE DOING ANYTHING

I meant nvflash64. I just drag the rom onto the exe and it flashes. If the device id is different I just run dos and use -6 to force it.

I'm going to swap out my 1070 with the R9 right now and try what you just wrote. I already saved it with gpu-z.

The unverified bios section might have a csm or non uefi bios, you have to look at them first, i provided a link earlier.

Much safer to just modify the original BIOS. The way I suggested is the easiest most efficient way possible to accomplish what you're after. Not trying to toot my own horn...but I'm an ATI/AMD BIOS modding/flashing expert. I've done it literally hundreds, if not thousands, of times.

And yes, they are listed as UEFI Supported(Yes or No).

Does it say in the description which one is the non UEFI legacy mode

You will need to click on each 1, ensure you look at ones that match your core and ram speed.

It appears there are 3 that say uefi supported= no in the description, look at the 1080/1400 units, if i read correctly the card boosts to 1080 from 1030

Far more important than matching clocks(which is essentially of no importance whatsoever) is to make sure which type/brand of VRAM the card has and be 1000% certain the BIOS you flash supports it. That's where you'll brick the card if you aren't careful.

Not that the other guy doesn't know what he's talking about. Just my way is better and backed by years more experience.
Yeah i was looking, in the descriptions of each, seems that card use elpedia memory

I've bricked cards before mostly being lazy with maxwell attempting to crossflash instead of making my own voltage/boost tables. Worst I had to do was boot into dos and reflash the original bios. I'm going to try the first method just saving and flashing.Does it matter if I use the second slot with no driver installed?

Just make sure when running the commands you have the correct slot selected

Great, upload the 2 bios files, make sure 1 says uefi and the other doesnt on tpu gpu database for your specific card if possible. If you need help you could probably ask a moderator to.

This needs to be pinned

Ok that was way too easy after over 4 hours of searching all the Dell forums just full of pissed of people getting nowhere with RMA's and just dumping hardware with nothing black screens to show for it, doesn't help all the Tech-tubers recommend buying a pre-built sandy-bridge Pc and dropping in a new gpu/psu and the stupid bios won't work with Ati Radeon UEFI cards at all. These steps definitely can save alot of headache especially if that's someones main machine. I got the Gpu yesterday for $25 and put that pc together from spare parts in my junk pile so it's saving stuff from being trashed.

the Pitcairn.rom is the original and the r9 270x.rom is the modded one (All I did was open and save it with a message about the UEFI)

The next easiest way to do it would be to use the HD 7XXX Series GOP UEFI Bios Patcher Beta. Which I'm stealing from a post on overclock.net and posting as an attachment here for convenience(otherwise you'd need to sign-up over there to be able to download it). You can use it to add or remove UEFI functionality, or just deactivate/disable or activate/enable it(if it's been added or was already present). It also fixes checksums. VBE7 fixes checksums too. Same method as to disable the UEFI. Open a vBIOS rom file with a bad/invalid checksum and save it. Checksum fixed, UEFI disabled(if the functionality is present and active). There's also a UEFI(GOP) BIOS sniffing tool for finding UEFI(GOP) supported vBIOS files downloaded from the TPU database.

You could also try your luck at hex editing the vBIOS rom file. If you can figure out where the UEFI lines are and how to delete or disable them without making a mess of things. I don't recommend it. Someone already did the work for us. ;)
