Well I need to know if there is any free software other than windows disk defragmenter.

I started defraging one of my 250GB HD's at 5:00am this morning, at 9:30am it was only at 11%. It only has 20% free space left on it BTW and it needs to be defraged :banghead:.

so if you guys know of any good free progs that will defrag better than windows Defrag PLEASE TELL ME!!:D:toast::respect::rockout:

Erm, break up the storage segment of your drive into smaller partitions next time. You won't have to defrag anything that you store nearly as often as the partition that your games and OS are on.

Dunno of any good programs though, most of what I've seen will cost you a couple bucks.

diskkeeper has some good trials

PerfectDisk is my favorite and Ashampoo is good but strange.

Both are pay programs but look around, you never know what kinda "deal" you might find floating around.

I've never seen any especially good free defraggers - most of them are no better (or worse) than the built in Windows one. I personally use PerfectDisk, as I find it works better than Diskeeper and it isn't too expensive.

Unfortuanatly I've had a very bad experience with Partitions in the past (having the OS on one partition and your crap on the other).

I have my OS on a separate 80GB HD and I keep all my games&stuff on two 250GB HDs.

I think I found one http://www.auslogics.com/disk-defrag

DISKKEEPER, it has a 30 day trial, its the best i've used, and it is fast

O & o lets you do a quick defrag that tidies up loose ends without defragging the whole drive.

it is very good, and seems to pick up on a lot of files

try jkdefrag, but firts find it`s GUI version

just trying Defraggler now, it seems you can defrag individual files not just folders

defraggler is the best i've used.. and it owns!

Does defraggler optimize as well? To make your most used files run faster? I use Iobit smart defrag, a free utility from www.iobit.com and supposedly it also moves the most frequently used data to the outer parts of the HDD...
I just downloaded defraggler to test it out.

nope.. it just does an awesome job at defraging.

Well then I think the Iobit one is better because it also optimizes programs to run faster?

how about a combo? use lobit to organize your files, and then have defraggler defrag the files.

I thought about that but then I wondered whether one program would be undoing what the other did?

I ran iobit, it was over in like 8 minutes. Then I started defraggler, it's been going on for like 2hours now, and it's only at 31%..... and I normally defrag like once every 2 weeks or every time I install a large program, so my hdd couldn't be so badly fragged?

defraggler is uber through.. and really degrafments.. and im used to its long times.. try using the other program after you used defraggler and then use defraggler after that.

OK guys I'm back from work, seems this thread took off =],

Anyway, Defraggler is the best defrag prog I have used sofar, It defraged my 250GB HD REALLY fast maby 15mins or so to defrag and it defragged REALLY good! And its FREE!

Screen shot of my Defragged drive, there were only two fragmented files:

Re-orging the files is why some programs take much longer than others to finish a run. Slow computer + big hard drive + re-org files = hours , maybe days !
