Need GPU upgrade Advice

Hello, this is my first time on techpowerup.com so I am hoping it will be useful in helping solve my current issue. I just made the switch back to PC so I am a bit clueless when it comes to hardware now.

I just got the Acer AM3410 and am looking to upgrade its graphics card to handle minor gaming. I am not building a gaming rig at the moment so I don't need some 500 dollar graphics card but I want something that can get the job done and run newly released games fairly well.

Everything in the computer linked here is still stock.

A few cards i was looking at would be the Geforce GT 440, Radeon HD 5670, or the 5770.

Thanks for any help anyone can offer me.

Firstly...... Welcome! You have not mentioned what resolution your monitor is as obviously your screen was not included in the bundle. To be honest I would opt for something a little more powerful than you have mentioned, only because there are some pretty demanding releases due, I think this one are worth considering as it blends performance and price fairly well and will give you more than you have mentioned.....

A few days ago the 1gb variant was still availlable for $99 after rebate so wait for a deal like this or get something like this SAPPHIRE 100314-3L Radeon HD 6870 1GB 256-bit GDDR...

hah my bad, it is 1280x1024...the HP vs19e planning on upgrading it but idk how soon. My only concern with that card is that it looks rather large. My case is...what seems like to me...very small as it is meant to be just a student/work computer. I could be wrong and the picture just deceives me haha

Is there any reason you are not a fan of the 5670? I have been doing more research on it since my initial post and it seems that a lot of people are saying it's not too bad.

I guess a little more information is that I am mainly a console player right now so i really only want this card to keep up with modern games, not completely dominate them.

Hello.
Im a proud owner of XFX 5770 XXX OC. edition. I overclocked it myself too, its running @ 930/1320 and i have no problems running any games at the moment. Im playing @ 1920x1080 res, and run most of my games maxed out. Only GTA IV makes it struggle at very high settings, but is more then playable with med/high settings. I'd say that it's a good card and i never had any problems with it. I used it with core 2 duo and was still satisfied. Now recently i went to i5 based system and im veryvery satisfied. :)

Would the 300w PSU that comes with that Acer be enough for the 460 or 6870 you guys recommended?

It looks like the 5770 & 460 both recommend 450w PSUs & the 6870 recommends a 500w PSU. It might be fine with the 300w, but I am just sounding a note of caution.

As he mentioned, recommended of 500W, which is in it self an "overkill", but your PSU will run more efficiently at using around 60-70% load (if not much less) instead of a 300-400w running at 90% load. Especially if its a cheap PSU its noise will litterally annoy you

Cheap overloaded PSUs have a tendency to fail, and when they fail, they can occasionally take the whole rig (MB/CPU/GPU/HDD) with it. I recommend either a lower powered GPU, or a new PSU.

Yeah, on PSU its better not to save money, its the most important component of them all. About sound, same story, cheap PSU-s will become annoying. For example, in my old pc i used to have some kind of a no-name psu, i hated it. In my current rig is 650W Thermaltake Toughpower, which is completely noiseless.
But as said above, don't spend on gpu. Get a better PSU if you want to upgrade.
