I've read on these forums that the 9700 is not a adequate heatsink for a quad core CPU. It's fine for a dual, but not a quad. I think this may be your problem especailly since you said your old heatsink kept your CPU cooler.

I bought a mascool fan before the Zalman 9700. It wasn't keeping super cool but it was keeping it cooler than my zalman is right now.

BTW, the 7xx chipset issues was with playing videos, not heat problems.

Fresno California, yeah it's hot there. My family lived at NAS Lemoore for 3 years when I was a teenage. I definently remember 120' f with 15% humidy.

I did a little research on your HSF and its not the greatest cooler for Overclocked Quads. IF you were running stock it would be fine.

The xigmatek is a excellent cooler for the price.

im a little disconnected on air cooling...been using water for so long I rarely read reviews on heatsinks.

Haha well now that I'm sending the fan back i was thinking. I want to go liquid cooling. I'm always sitting there wanting to push my system to the max and air cant really do that. The liquid kit that you are using, how much does it run? I really wanna look into serious over clocking.

I was just in a discussion regarding watercooling kits in a different forum. My standpoint is kits are pointless for the most part. You can build a custom waterloop very easily and just like a custom computer you get to choose all the parts and quality of those parts.

As far as tubing goes I would not suggest the 1/2" size it's to big and takes up a lot of space. Also its not great to work with for bending and tight spaces.
3/8" is what I use, and would recommend.

This is the basic setup and with enough of a pump and radiator to easily accomodate VGA and Chipset cooling when you decide to cool those as well. Which you will once you see how awesome water is compared to air.

Do you think you would want to upgrade down the road and start with the cpu or get VGA and Chipset at the start?

The only other thing you will need is 2 120MM fans or 3 depending on Radiator choice.

Get your tubing at any hardware store..Ace, Truevalue, Lowes, Homedepot..same tubing but .78 cents a foot versus stupid expensive on newegg and other cooling websites.

For water get a gallon of Distilled water....Cheap. And any of these additives for a little better heat transfer but mainly to keep the water "life form" free.

I think I would probably want to upgrade down the road. I have a question. You can just go out and by distilled water from a pharmacy and use it as your coolant? Oh and I saw on that post that Erocker bought a fan with his kit as well. Do you need to buy a fan for the radiator? Or was he just buying a case fan?

Any Distilled water will work. You can get it at almost any grocery store.

Alright SO I think I'll go with the D-tek CPU block. Which is a better deal the radiator with no reservoir or the one with? I'll make sure to get that pump as well. Oh and what about a flow indicator?Oh and also, on the D-tek, it said that it has an optional "something" for quad processors. Would I need that?

A flow indicator is nice to have. Cheap. Well worth it.

If you go with the d-tek I believe it comes with 1/2" bards, so you will have to choose 3/8".

The swiftech pump is also 1/2" so you will need a small amount of 1/2" tubing and then a 1/2" to 3/8" adapter..$1.50.

The Quad Core mid Chamber insert isn't required, but it will help.

For simplicity I would say go with the Res/Rad combo.
