Need New Monitor

I think his budget is a little past and 1080p 24"but your right on the 4K I wouldn't do it. 1440 or 1600

Simple. Anything bigger at 1080p will not look so sharp. You want to experience the clearest and sharpest image there is.
Sure i have played/tested on my 32 inch led 1080p tv games at high, very high settings (Bioshock Infinite,Skyrim,DA Inquisition, call of juarez gunslinger, Advanced Warfare, splinter cell blacklist,Injustice Gods Among Us etc) and i still think they look very good. But i am very easy to please, very very easy . I don't care so much about the fps (as long there is no lag that i can notice),i don't care about screen taring and many other things.

Also,i don't know about you,but for me anything bigger then 24 inch (i tired a 27 inch) is to much for a monitor. I have to be seated close so the images, font wont be to small to hurt my eyes but at the same time viewing angle has to be right as well.
At 1 meter distance from he monitor at 27 inch the viewing angle is to big for me.. I get a headache. Your eyes need to see the entire screen without having to stress.

If he sticks to 1080p and a 27 in. the text will be bigger. If he moves up to 1440p he'll have same problem you describe. Wanting to be too close to it to see the text. Of course there is scaling but It sounds like your sitting at the same distance from your 24 to the 27. Move the monitor back.

Because of lack of money,we often want a monitor for daily applications and normal everyday routines, but at the same time we want a big display to look nice while we watch movies and play high settings games (with the highest refresh rate if possible). At some point we need to compromise, don't you think ?

A monitor arm is a good investment. You can move it around. If you have a 27/28 you can push it back when you want and pull it forward when you want to.

Again i go back to my previous thoughts. In 2016 ,and later on with big titles that are very demanding, you will constantly have to readjust the settings (lower them) to get best playing experience. And while you are doing that ,the lower the settings , the more bad they will look on a bigger display.
For example ,Far Cry 3 for me on 1600x900 res on high settings looks good on my tv. If i play it on the monitor (24inch ips) it looks very good.

Distance. Your not playing at the same distance when your on your TV as when your sitting in-front of your desk.

The problem with 4k is even the most powerful gpus today can't run 4k gaming at a good framerate. I don't think 4k belongs in PC gaming or on PCs at all barring some serious productivity stuff.

OK, Resolution to handle the GPU capabilities. Size 27" or 28". Refresh rate 144Hz. Now can you read my mind?:)
Dick response. Smiley doesnt make it sound any better.
