Need new router for Gigabit internet

How about this one? It runs OpenWRT as the default OS.
Interesting.

First time hearing of this company. And just after I got a new AX86U Pro and put Merlin on it. How do they compare?

edit - about the same price (on sale) as well

the very meh RT-AX92U.
What’s meh about it? I bought a pair set for Mesh. Now this was a few years ago now but I‘ve never found any fault with them. I’ve always liked the UI and ease of use and setup and they’ve even protected me when I’ve hit a dodgy link on my phone that wouldn’t have known any better.

You got any proof of that?
I have all the proof I need......I've bought 6 of their routers over the past few years (all mid to high-end models), mainly as a test to see if anything had changed about their build quality or reliability or new/different software/firmware:

A) 1 was DOA on day 1....
B) 2x suddenly died completely within 4 months, both RMA's were denied, saying they were not sold by an "authorized" retailer.....as in Amazon... who thankfully gave me full refunds no questions asked.
C) 1x overheated after only 3 weeks & almost caught fire, fortunately I was close enough to it to pull the plug in time
D) 1x worked for a while, but the WiFi died after about 6 months, although the ethernet part still worked ok
E) 1x had fairly good speeds about 30% of the time, other times crappy & inconsistent...

And yes, I tried many different combinations of placement, settings, frequencies, updates etc....

Sooooooooo, now you know why I throw shade at & simply refuse to buy or recommend anything & everything made by the Toilet Paper Company :)

I was just upgraded to Gigabit internet. Wired straight to my modem, I get 1100 mbps, but wired to my router, I'm only getting 700 mbps and wireless I'm only getting between 100-130 mbps regardless of how close or far away I am from the router. Currently I'm using a Linksys WRT 3200 ACM router, which from my research, I thought would be able to handle the faster speeds. The router has a few years worth of use on it, so I'm guessing it's "getting old". I'm looking to upgrade to a mesh system. I live in a three bedroom 2 story house, so a three unit system should offer the coverage I'm looking for (upstairs bedroom, downstairs bedroom, and living room/kitchen area). What mesh system would you recommend me getting. Budget, I would prefer staying under $200, but if need be, I can go as high as $300. Looking for suggestions.
Ubiquiti cloud gateway max or ultra. I'm prolly gonna switch to that soon myself. Meraki license fees are killing me.

Careful. If they are too competitive, they will be banned in a few years too.
2 letters, a symbol, and 4 letters. Also from China. They will be in the crosshairs.

It's been on sale directly on their site for US$130-ish, right now it's US$159.

Huh? They're a minor player and their hardware runs OpenWRT, which is the only reason they get recommended really.

It's meh because it shipped with an old dual core Cortex-A53 and three radios, that SoC wasn't made to run more than two radios and was used in AC routers and was never intended for AX routers. I'm glad yours are working as intended, but the solution is meh, compared to most other AX routers.

Don't be naive.
Oh, so if they were more disruptive to the market, then they would be more likely to be banned? Makes a lot of sense. What does that make the real motive?
Still waiting on some evidence to support TP-Link's supposed Chinese spying scandal. If anything, I would say a competing cheap brand, at this time of all times, with a similar naming scheme is more evidence of a conspiracy than anything else provided.
OpenWRT firmware makes it more legit? Why's that? Where is the evidence? OpenWRT has CVEs too, you know. People would tell you to keep the firmware updated and use good security practices too. Same as they caution for TP-Link routers. I'm still looking for the evidence or motive.

Don't be a troll. Stop reacting like a a bear with a sore head.
Fine. No evidence. Gotcha.
The world has gone mad. Can't even have a logical discussion about tech without politics getting in the way. Seriously crazy the lines drawn over everything.

As established, I have a TP-Link AX4400. It's a great router at a great price. Good speed. Good coverage. All the features you could want. I read about this impending ban. I am concerned. I research and come up with no reason I should be concerned. I state as much.

Do you have evidence? Why are you here laughing at every post I make? Get your jollies somewhere else if you have nothing to contribute. I care because I have a reason to care. You care because I recommended a just-as-good router which is $40 cheaper than your choice? Who is the troll?

So far, it looks like some more *this politcal party* era nonsense; like the last time this happened with a different company. Please show me otherwise. Why should I be concerned? Evidence of a purposeful exploit in use?

LOL!

Yeah it has. And TP-Link is a company to be avoided so quit parroting their nonsense.

Because they're funny? You keep droning on about something when the OP has already made a choice, made a purchase and have put their purchase into service.
Get your jollies somewhere else if you have nothing to contribute.
Pot, meet Kettle! Just an FYI, the OP bought the router I recommended. Not to toot my own horn or anything, but I'd say I offered a useful contribution. Just throwing it out there...

The price is of no consequence. The OP has already made their purchase. Also TP-Link, and try to follow along here, CAN NOT be trusted. The reason you care has no meaning and no merit.
Do you have evidence?

We don't need to prove anything. It's not our job, our onus or our responsibility. When several governments around the world seek to ban the sale of products made by a company stating and citing security concerns, that is all we need to warn people away from making what is potentially a VERY foolish choice.

Ok just some clarification. When we are saying AC vs AX are we talking models or Wifi standards? I do appreciate the info tho.

Gotcha. Still have nothing to back up your opinion. Great. Thanks for nothing.
I remember a lot of people citing nonsense security concerns last time. Remember how that turned out?

I have a UCG-Max on a 2gbit fiber connection for my office in Tampa. It is able to handle it without any hiccups. Ubiquiti is a more expensive option for an average consumer but worth it imo.
