Net neutrality, no concerns?

What if one day suddenly you can't access this site? It's going to happen. How about putting some info in the site to inform people how to fight that.
Even much lesser sites are putting up warnings about this. Normally I hate this cr*p, but in this case, it needs to be done.

In the USA its worse than other countries, because you dont have the freedom of choice (hah, americans having real freedom? as if) as many of you are stuck with one provider in your area.

Over here if one telco blocks or slows down something people want, they just jump ship to another ISP.

When it comes to "eliminating" Net Neutrality in US, it's not as scary as it sounds.
ISPs were prioritizing traffic since the beginning of time.
Even when NN laws were enacted, they were still throttling bittorrent traffic, prioritizing domestic sites over foreign web-resources, giving higher bandwidth to media-companies which they have contracts with etc. Just google the Netflix && Comcast deal - it's the best example of shady ISP behavior before current changes in law.
It's always been like that, and not just in US... this change in regulation only makes it official.

Censorship, on the other hand, is a big problem. In my country almost all CES-region social networks are banned, so as widely used russian software, like Kaspersky AV, all 1C software, etc.
Just yesterday I had an explosion of rage, when I found out that right after those retarded news about NSA leak "through Kaspersky AV", my braindead president banned all Kaspersky Labs software yet again (that's after quietly removing the ban back in June-July). Also I've noticed that some electronics repair forums are no longer accessible (not just russian, but also from other CES regions && China).

As long as the state's add to the law, not take away from it they are legal. They can tighten the rules but not loosen them. So if a state is already stricter than what is passed they are ok.

I apologize. the "sponsors" listed in the middle there (Comcast, Cocks, and Frontier) are raising rates, not sponsoring the bill. The bill will prevent states from enacting their own laws regarding net neutrality. And no, local governments cannot overrule the federal law. Case in point: marijuana legalization in some states for recreational use. Those businesses can be, and are, still prosecuted under federal regulations.

Other countries have other rules as well. It's a pay for speed system here, where unlimited broadband and fast fibre costs more. But that's the hardware service costs. The web itself isn't segregated, i.e., I don't pay more for Netflix for the extra bandwidth the 4k uses. That's where near neutrality becomes a possible problem. Note, I said possible.

It's always been like that; let me give an example of my previous ISP. I am from Lebanon. It used to throttle my speed everytime I was downloading music, steam games or something big. Sure I was on an unlimited 256kbps connection but when the guy was noticing that I was downloading Phil Collins albums my speed dropped suddenly after a few minutes. It saves him a lot of money of course. I am over another ISP now. Now I'm happy about the fact that whenever I'm browsing my speed is around 200-300kbps but when I need to download something from steam the speed jumps to 3-4mbps . As long as there's competition

Well, during a recent trip to China, TPU was working just fine there, whereas I couldn't access a ton of other content without connecting via VPN or using roaming on my phone (which somehow, mystically bypasses all blocks in China). As such, there's a good chance TPU is not going to be blocked at any point in time by any country in the world, unless they write nasty stories about the US internet service providers...

I'm just glad I live in a place where even though there isn't too much competition, the government is making sure the prices are being kept reasonable, regardless if it has to do with internet, cable TV or mobile services. It doesn't mean that there isn't a range of speeds and services to choose from and if you want, you can spend a small fortune on your internet connection, but I pay around the equivalent of US$33 a month for a 200/30Mbps connection, which I think is reasonable, as there are no usage caps or other silly things like that and the service tends to deliver the speed I'm paying for. On top of this, there are as far as I'm aware, no websites being blocked, although I guess I don't exactly hang out in the shadier parts of the interweb, so it's possible there are some parts of that being blocked, but rightly so...

Net neutrality is critical as has been explained by Mozilla etc, so I'll just say here that I agree with them and that it's pure, unbridled corruption that has lead us to this point.

Choices would be great when ordering television phone and Internet service. I was speaking to my in-laws over Christmas and they were telling me they hate commercials and they would gladly pay a premium for television with no commercials. I would gladly pay a premium to have Internet with no commercials, or Internet that came in a speed greater than 60 freaking megabits per second(that didnt require a "deterrent" $250 service/setup charge, and a ridiculous monthly fee). Its never good for customers to have monopolies on anything "Free market" based, Everyone person i talk to in my area HATED charter, Comcast, or theyre subsidiaries.

if i want channel 3-7-91-and 417, that should be possible. WITH my local ISP. i dont want to order some stupid service, etc...i just want options that benefit me. I wouldnt want to be forced to buy radish's when i went to buy milk at the grocery store.....and i certainly dont like buying Telemundo, or Oxygen, or BET, just because i want animal planet, or cartoon network. @charterispTPU im looking at You. What everyone ignores is that until the Obama administration implemented it, the situation was the same as now. The sky is not falling.

Access to sites was not restricted anymore then than it will be without NN.

This will likely affect your speed tho, based on what you pay.....I might point out most ISP's here already have that and continued it through our brief NN period.
