I have a friend who wants a new rig that he will be building himself. He has a budget up to $800-950. He said that it will be used for moderately gaming. He will be using Vista ultimate edition which he already has. Thank you in advance.

Bad time to shop right now, wait about 2 weeks and then start looking around.

hmm

lets try this:

transcend axeram 1066
dfi blood iron
q6600
hd 3870
corsair 550 psu
some good samsung hdds depending on the remainder of his budget.

Pancho, you got the new P45's/9800 nVidia's right around the corner, and soon REALLY SOON the X38's should come down in price about a ten-twenty spot.

If you want to start shopping around do some case, hard drive, proc, and power supply shopping.

well this is a present day cart.. and he'll want to wait more then till when they are released.. you have to get the reviews, bugs, ratings, general information, updated drivers, revisions etc.. its best to buy the new tech a bit after it comes out imo.

Does he have a monitor?

Very true, but that can sway either way though. Look at the BloodIrons, they didn't get real real popular until the past month or 2, before that they were $100 ea.
