Hello! I just installed a new wifi chip (AX210NGW WiFi Card). Installation went great and I confirmed that it is connected and function, but now my wifi speed seems to be capped much lower at around 48mbps as opposed to my previous 400mbps+. any cause for this issue?

Could be your control panel settings, a lack of proper drivers, or a combination of the two.

So you had a old wifi card that achieved 400mbps but the new wifi card is lower?

BIOS is always a good place to start.

Since you would have to be inside OS to read this. Look if a setting there placed an artificial limiter on speed or speed after a set amount of activity. Same with a driver setting.

There is always the trusty advice to fully depower and reseat wifi card. Check and recheck nothing is damaged or capable of impacting functionality.

So you had a old wifi card that achieved 400mbps but... ...?
To me the question is, then why replace it? What was wrong with 400mbps?

You might check your priority settings in your router? Some routers let you designate which device (NIC) has priority and gets the most bandwidth. This is so you can give your streaming device, for example, a higher priority than you smart thermostat. Your old NIC may have had top priority and now the new is at the bottom of the food chain.

Have you installed the latest driver package from Intel? You should download and install both the wifi and bluetooth drivers.

I can't speak for OP, but my internet is faster than 400Mb/s.

Assuming we're talking about link speed, QOS settings will not have any impact. And any QOS priority settings will only come into effect when there are higher priority devices that are basically maxing out the connection as is with regards to actual download speed.

I think Bill and others responding are just putting out ideas that get them digging around in the right places if the exact letter perfect example cited isn't at fault.

Have you tried rebooting your modem? I have a Motorola MB7621 that slows to a crawl every few months and rebooting brings it back to 380 mbs. It's already been replaced once under warranty. The next time it wonks out I'm getting a MB8611.

Is that a criticism? Or an astute observation?

As a technician myself, unless the device is sitting on my bench in front of me where I can see for myself exactly what is happening, "putting out ideas" is my only option. I can just hope my years of experience, plus a little research can help focus the OPs attention to the most likely places, first.

@Bill_Bright If you honestly needed to scrutinizingly read into that. Is answer A, B, or none of the above going to make any difference? To the OP or to the avoidance of...???

No need to take offense - I sure didn't mean to ruffle your feathers. I was just curious as to what you were implying. If we could see posters facial expressions and body language, and/or hear the tone of voice, much misunderstandings would never happen and there would be no need for emoticons.

It could also be your signal strength remember they all have different distances that can travel through walls and all that stuff. I can't remember all the bands off the top of my head but Wi-Fi 6e is slower for me than Wi-Fi 6 just because of how my house is set up. By that I mean the signal strength is lower therefore I have lower total bandwidth.

Speaking of single strength if you are having signal integrity issues that can contribute to lower total bandwidth.

Thirdly if you have the wrong drivers that can also absolutely cause problems

Remember when g came out and I could cross the street from my house and still have good signal then we got a N router a few years later and I could barely use it across the house The signal screen dropped so rapidly that actually g was better
