Nightdive Studios Releases New System Shock Remake Demo

And that only shows that you misunderstand the game dev process.

You are focusing on the graphics, which are clearly still in development. Instead focus on the gameplay.
True, I don't know anything about game development and the gameplay is fine. I'm simply taking issue with presenting a game with such low quality textures.
Of course, it's possible that it's a design decision and the devs want it to have a retro look. I've also made a similar comment on their YouTube channel in the hope of getting an answer to that.
It's no big deal, just a bit puzzling.

That is possible. It does look a little on the deliberate side. We'll see how things turn out, but I'm happy with it so far. I wasn't into the original as much as many people, but this I like.

That's sad... very-very sad... I'd go as far as call it pathetic....
I think the only difference between "pre-alpha" demo (or whatever we had at the start of KS campaign), is that it doesn't crash every 5 minutes, but only added some protagonist animations, awful voice-overs done by dev. team themselves, and of course that eye-gouging pixelation which we didn't have before. It feels like intentional revenge by degradation. Something along the lines: "You didn't let us make a mediocre sequel, so here's a shitty reboot that you were crying about!".
I mean, seriously... where's all that glorified hard labor? Even if I skip the fact that most of it was already designed over 4 years ago (5 years, if we get technical about it), it still feels like it was made not on $1.3m from KS and a shitton of support from many companies, but on Twitch bits from all those long and boring developer streams.

At this point, all this is is a (major) graphical upgrade to their Enhanced Edition port. If this was really the intention, then I can accept it.

However, I did download it thinking it would be like the original Doom (1993) to Doom (2006), which is why I feel it was disappointing.

There shouldn't be any focus on improving the gameplay. This should play like System Shock 2. If they change the gameplay it's not System Shock 2 any more.

People wanting System Shock 3 need to chill out, this is a 1999 nostalgia trip. If you never played the original because it looks too old and clunky, this might appeal but otherwise the devs have stated that their goal is to keep it as close to the 1999 original in feel and gameplay as much as possible.

Since when having a demo is a "show of faith on the developers' part"? WTF?

Also, puzzle-solving with your gun in the way is a very poor choice. Drop the weapon off-screen if you don't want to blow the mini-game on the viewport.

What, I'm thinking of Remastered which was exactly that, a graphical update of SS2

This is actually the original SS, their kickstarter from 2016 is here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1598858095/system-shock

General Features
→ A modern take on System Shock, a faithful reboot; it’s not Citadel Station as it was, but as you remember it. Many improvements, overhauls and changes are being implemented to capture the spirit of what the original game was trying to convey, and bring it to contemporary gamers.
→ Re-imagined enemies, weapons, and locations by original concept artist Robb Waters.
→ Terri Brosius reprises her role as SHODAN, and new VO will be recorded.
→ Brand new musical score composed by Jonathan Peros.
→ The user interface, game mechanics, enemies, and puzzles will be updated to reflect modern aesthetics and sensibilities, while maintaining the feel of the original.

So this is a demo of the abandoned reboot and now the chinese will start from scratch or wth is going on? If that's the case, why is this even released?

Chinese will start on licensed SS3 sequel. Nightdive will keep pulling dog's balls on SS remake.

People want System Shock remake, not another 5-hour dev stream with half-assed assets, not another batch of concept art, not another mutilated hospital demo.

Also, KS backers paid for, and I quote, "modern take on System Shock".
Just look at their pre-Kickstarter 2016 demo, and you'll see what I mean:

If it was just a nostalgia trip, there's the enhanced edition already, or they could've used their more appropriate KEX engine (or even zadnronum, if things get really tight).

It's not System Shock 2 at all. This is a remake of SS1. Did you miss that point?
What a difference a typo makes. That was supposed to be "Wait, I'm thinking of Remastered....", not "What, I'm thinking of Remastered"
If you follow the link, you'll see I was talking about the SS1 remake, not SS2 remastered.

We've all been there, no worries.

If you pre-order System Shock on GOG (playable on August 31st), you'll receive SS2 Enhanced Edition free, when it's released, apparently.

I really enjoyed the demo. So I've jumped onboard. Two preorders in as many years... WTH is up with that... I never preorder stuff...

I won't preorder and I already have SS2EE but I might pick this up as I never played the original SS.

I still need to play the new Prey though, I picked that up for a tenner over Christmas and everyone is saying that it's a great if you like SS2.
