The retarded thing about all is the difficulty get's artificially increased with the increasing of total compute power so everybody is just fighting for percentile of the crypto pie so in reality it's all waste of resources really.

I just got a soldering iron which has a 108MHz RISC-V CPU, several times the memory of a Game Boy and runs a far more advanced, not to mention open source, OS. Running a miner on it would be a rather trivial task.
