I get what you mean :)
I wander if when you happen upon another player (which is an extremely rare event, as stated by Sean Murray), they'll have an anime face :p

Someone posted two demos

Cool places. Marine and terrain looks spectacular.
Great share :)
That last world looks so rich and vibrant! I just want to go running through the grass and follow all the creatures :D

Benchmark Scores bench...mark? i do leave mark on bench sometime, to remember which one is the most comfortable. :o
for what i see, it look pretty "meh" to me ... i wonder why, i wanted to follow it i had it in wishlist but ... i can't find a single point of interest in that future release.

i want beautiful spaceship game : i play and will play SC or Elite: Dangerous, i want a sandbox game : i play Ark (for me the planet phase looks like ARK but on a larger surface )
all of those are not the best in their class (or are they ... ) but NMS is not either. (personal opinion, the graphics look boring the color are too much at my taste.)

So many people are saying how they think this game will be like so many others already out, or coming out.
But I can really see this game being unique and it's own thing.
Plus, I think you've got to appreciate the game mechanics and how it differs in that respect - no loading screens, complete procedural generation, the scale...etc. etc.

As Sean Murray himself implies from various interviews, this game is a kind of experiment. An experiment that'll be right up the street of some people, but really not in favour of others.

You can't please everyone, something I learned from working in the catering industry

Wait, I thought this was PS4 exclusive? Maybe just console exclusive I guess. Either way, looking forward to it but will likely get on PS4. It would be awesome to play this in VR.

It's exclusive to PS4 and PC :)
I think in a video or article somewhere I heard that Sean Murray said he was planning on making this game VR supported...I think (and hope).

Same here. Beautiful visuals and lots of exploration. I like colors in this game. Many modern games have dull palette, so happy that's not the case with No Man's Sky. Even game's title sounds good

It already has a Steam store page so it is definitely coming to Windows:

I don't think it looks like anime but the color palette used definitely gives a psychedelic impression.

Just add it to your wishlist. I'm pretty sure Valve sends an email when a wishlist item is available for preorder.

I'm torn here.

I've played games that promise something like this. Off the top of my head Edge of Space.

At the same time, they have all been miserable disappointment. Edge of Space is an instance where the "game" is a paid beta. Everything else I've ever done rather quickly demonstrates that "randomly generated" means "draws from a limited diversity pool. Eventually said pool thins and dries up, so you get to the point of being able to tell what the "random" variables are (tile x, y, or z at total size <s with t number of unique treasures from a small pool).

I don't care enough about the visuals to absolutely want this game. Likewise, the rather gigantic promises gives me the Molyneux willies (over promising, under delivering, but insane drive).

I wish I could say this game draws me in, but like Fallout 4 I'm going to have to wait until well after release before they get any of my money.

Don't get me wrong, I see reason for optimism. I can entirely understand positivity. My issue here is that a few too many people promise you the moon, and deliver you a steaming pile of half finished space junk.

I would love it if this game proved as amazing as the hype, but through bitter experiences I've been taught to temper expectations with a health lump of detached cynicism. You're never disappointed when your expectations are properly managed.

Agreed :)
I find that a lot of those disappointments you were talking about usually release teaser trailers in a cinematic fashion. But there hasn't been any other footage of NMS which hasn't been gameplay - it's all been gameplay.
So they're showing to us as well as just telling us what makes their game so different :)

But of course, there's always room for major disappointments; bugs for example.

The videos show the mechanics of it are pretty sound but what I haven't seen yet is incentive to explore. Other than getting to the center of the galaxy, what is the proverbial "carrot" you are chasing? At present, it doesn't sound much different from the Spore end game and the Spore end game is the most boring part. The game needs side missions/objectives/goals and a descent story to supplement the universe. My hope is that is what they are working on now and why they haven't announced a release date. If they fill the game with narrative content, I think it will be a good game.

Games like this shouldn't have an "end". It'd be really awesome if it had randomly generated exoplanets. Some dead others full of life. A true "Open Megaverse" game. Maybe even different Universes with different physical laws connected with Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen bridges. I got carried away ...

And btw I don't give a crap if it looks like anime or even if it's sepia or b/w.

Lots of games don't have an end. They leave you to your own devices in the open world. The problem is that most gamers lose interest at this point because they've seen all there is that's worth seeing; they caught, and ate, their proverbial carrot. Before I buy, I want to know how long will it take playing the game before I eat that carrot and find me a new one.

Well the thing is, this game is aimed at people who have exploration running through their veins; I don't need anything to chase! It's the sheer freedom and potential of what there is to discover! That drives me alone.
I think that people who think how you just thought will not be into this game as much as people like me, or will at least get bored of it quicker.

Hearing and anticipating the concept of this game literally makes me feel like I've just served a twenty year jail sentence, and am on the verge of being set free. If the same effect isn't happening for you, this game may not be to your taste as much.

How big that "carrot" is is entirely dependent on you! As the "carrot" in this game is solely exploration, and there may as well be an infinite amount of things to explore as the universe is so big.
So as I said in my previous post, it depends on how big your appetite for exploration is.
Like I said above if it has crazy (infinite) amount of places (or even times) to go I could play it forever.
Same here bud!

I use this site to get a general idea how long a game is

http://howlongtobeat.com/

I've found that it usually takes me longer than most to play through a game though so I tack on 25%.
