specs:

motherboard: B450m hdv
PSU: 600W Cooler Master MWE 600 V2 (newly fitted)
CPU: ryzen 5 2600x
RAM: 16gb Corsair 3200 mhz
8x2gb

running windows 11 with the dev mode which could cause instability

So i have a gtx 1050 2gb and thought its time to upgrade to an RTX 2070 palit 8gb.
i did the DDU stuff and made sure everything is removed before installing my new GPU in.
Once the GPU is in (all snug and 8pin is in i assure you) i get a no signal message on my monitor. GPU fans and rgb lights are on. keyboard nd mouse is on.

ive tested it on two different systems and it works. Even worked on a 400w PSU!

im using hdmi.
tried resettting cmos battery by taking it out and waiting 5 minutes with the power cable disconnected also.. not sure what to do?

My bios update/date is from 2019? not sure if i should update as i’ve read it could brick my system?

(i also apologise if i’ve posted this in the wrong place!)

Have you tried other output ports as well? Take a look at the PCIe slot, see if there are bent pin there. I would say try a different PCIe slot, but you don't have another one. Also, maybe try another PCIe power cable.

If it works on other systems, the problem lies either with the motherboard or the PSU. Check monitor settings, too. I've once forgot that I had my monitor set to DP (annoyed by that auto-scan pop-up) and was wondering why it gets no input from HDMI when I tried to switch.

Also, I'm assuming you're getting the "no signal" error before you can enter the BIOS.

I would update the bios. Just make sure you get the correct one for your system and there shouldnt be a problem. ASRock has been fine as far as updates goes.

yes, almost instantly the message comes up with no signal. The monitor automatically detects it and ive got two of the same ones and another pc is connected to the other one and it works on that one just fine. Pcie slot should be fine as the old GPU works in there. ive not tried other outputs as ive only got hdmi cables here lol

do you know which one i should get? theres quite a few just not sure which ones right for me

Try another HDMI port then. Just in case the one you use is faulty.

hmm, its brand new just newly fitted aswell.. is it possible its not connected properly to the PSU or something? monitor only has 1 hdmi port and 1 dp .. its a HP 24x gsync monitor. I changed the PSU because i thought that was the issue in the first place because it was only a 500w but that didnt work either but I had an RTX 2070 gigabyte that worked with it which is why im really confused what it could be.. since updating to w11 though, the dev mode my pc hasnt been as good as it was with windows 10 but doubt that could be the issue? since other GPUs work…

+1 for what @FreedomEclipse said. Latest BIOS is from 02.11.2022 . That's fairly recent. I would definitely start from there too.

so do you think that could be the issue then? i didnt know bios updates really do anything to do with the hardware but thanks!
Well you are running Win11. Your CPU is in the support list from MS. Also means GPT+secure boot+UEFI bios. Your GTX1050 worked fine. And the 2070 you tested in two other systems. You already did a lot of work. Perhaps reseat the GPU one more time after the BIOS flash.

Cant answer that. But at this stage, you got nothing to lose if the card works in every other PC you tried but not in your own. The card is clearly working and your old config with the 1050 also worked so its not a borked machine.

Sometimes motherboards dont like it if a GPU is PCI-Ex 4.0 but the but the board only supports PCI-Ex 3.0 and below etc etc. Dont ask me why but this sometimes will cause issues. But your system checks out... Your CPU, MB and GPU all support PCI-Ex 3.0 so it should have been a simple plug and play unless there is something else that is preventing it from working correctly.

-- On a side note, your power supply might be fairly new, but its complete junk and i would recommend you up your budget and get something more reputable and less likely to go kaboom. But other than that everything is solid.

There are two things I can say Either your psu's 8 pin cable is faulty or your motherboard's PCI Express X16 port has a problem, otherwise it's unlikely to be displayed. Also, make sure you hear the click of the X16 port when fully inserted. The port should be locked when the card is inserted. You can also try updating the BIOS.

Take the 400w psu from the system that worked and try it on your target system.

meant as in like newer from what i have lol sorry if i misled you. I will try and change the PSU’s around and see if that will change anything and let you know!

i just purchased a hdmi to dp cable aswell that didnt do anything.

Thanks guys!

i tried it on my other 500w PSU that i had and that didnt work either so i dont think the pin cable is faulty. i hear the click.

gonna try updating the BIOS today and see the outcome and give you an update thanks pal

Here on version 4.70 it says "improve GPU compatibility for geforce 40 series"
So it may help.

try switching UEFI CSM Mode off (or turn it on if its not) (put your old gpu in todo this)
some of the more recent gpus the VBIOS is pure uefi only or has issues when in CSM Mode
edit: windows may not boot if you installed it in csm mode and change it

The mobo bios update didn't work? Or his UEFI suggestion.

Also haven't seen the sometimes obvious answer of try a different HDMI cord.
