Nuclear batteries don't work on earth because the use cases basically don't exist. The output is too low for the cost. They only make sense when you need a trickle of power for a really long time on something you can't maintain.
There are plenty of use cases for it and there have been plenty of succesful implementations BUT you have to follow through with all the support of these things (look at soviet lighthouses)

Nuclear containerships etc make a lot of sense especially with the growth of "Globalization" where everywhere has to be interconnected 24/7 because everything has moved to a "Just In Time" setup to minimise/lower stuck capital so those companies can expand/react/change production as quickly as the market requires.

I do have an issue with China being the first to try and capitalise on this market as their history with Maritime Nuclear systems is.....Not Great? Also the fact they are proposing a core type that in theory is great but hasnt really had much development/usage on land and now wants to put it into maritime use straight away.

It all seems just a little ambitious especially when they have limited experience as a country fielding nuclear reactors even in their Navy.

I see no technical issues, just that I do not think it a good idea to put a reactor in a spot where pirates could gain access to them.

Or we would need to have some serious security to containers:

Used up nuclear waste could be easily sent to the moon for storage.
