First thing the specs in my sig..but i'll add it here quickly:
Ryzen 5 1400 stock speed
8GB 2666mhz ram
AMD Radeon RX580 8GB
EVGA 550w PSU
1080p monitor

I thought id make this thread next month/November in preparation for Black Friday "deals" but I thought id ask for some opinions right now.
Now I know the RTX cards aren't exactly great in price/performance ratio and the AMD 5700 at the moment offers better price/performance over the RTX2060 (not super) and the 1660ti doesn't compete with either of them.
Now my situation is i'll be giving my older bro the RX580 and i'll be looking for replacement GPU for the GF PC, i've narrowed it down to either the RTX2060, 1660ti or 5700.
However i'm a bit put off getting the 5700 due to the case from my own personal experience Nvidia drivers have been more robust for me and it should be hassle free for her to play games with no crashes or anything. She has had game crashes a fair amount of times with the 580 and i'm not always around to try and figure out what the issue is(we don't live together at the moment).
The 1660ti is thrown in the equation as she plays PC games casually and the 2060 is in there for more "future proof" and it be a side grade upgrade from the 580.
The 5700 and 2060 trade blows with each other and price very similar in the UK.

So my question is which card would you get for the 2nd rig and from your own personal experience which side has been hassle free in terms of drivers?

I'd go with 5700 since it is about the same price as 2060 (actually 5700 is cheaper a bit) and this card competes with 2600 Super. I wouldn't worry about the drivers. What I've seen across forums, driver support for navi is getting better and the problems are fading away.

I'm not sure why this thread exists. You don't want driver problems, get a card without driver problems. It's that simple.

Because I would like to hear other people experience from using both GPU manufacturer, I may not have experienced any problems with any Nvidia drivers & GPU but you do see threads of people having issue with them still.
I'm not trying to spark any drama or flame war over which is better, i'm only asking which card you would get and experience from people interchanging between the two brands.

And yet, you already have all the data you need. AMD is "fine wine" (i.e. shoddy at first, but it will get there eventually), Nvidia tends to have less issues.
And it's all useless, in the end it doesn't matter if a card has just one issue, if that issue is particular to your setup/favorite game.

OP wants AMD, he is just looking for some folks telling him it is OK.

To OP: go get a Navi.Experience it yourself and report back how satisfied you are.

AMD has weird bugs that pop up every now and then not to mention some legacy bugs that still haven't been fixed. If you're buying for computer-half-literate person just buy Nvidia. Nvidia at worst has game specific bugs.

And yes I'm ready for the flame war with my trusty fire extinguisher.

One other compromise is buy her RX 5700 and install it. Spend few days playing nooky with her and check if drivers are stable inbetween. If it's not stable return the card and get Nvidia. But if it is stable no need to update drivers frequently.

Some current amd issues are 75/144hz artifact bug, black screen on rx 5700 series, freesync issue in multi-monitor setup, zero rpm not working etc. Look for them specifically.

I changed my vote too. If you like AMD you should buy Navi, if you don't like AMD you should also buy Navi.

Just buy Navi, it just works. If it has problem then you are using it wrong, or you are a Nvidia shill.

Waiting for your review of your 5700!

Of course there's bound to be drama when you bring it yourself.

Another thread hijacked by salty trolls that can't stand the thought of anyone recommending something that's not painted in their favorite color. Grow up, this is just sad.

LOL
I have a GTX 1660 Ti and I love it.
I only play SP games at 1080p/60 Hz so it performs extremely well for my needs.
I have Never had any issues with it or with drivers for it so far.

So my advice is Buy whichever GPU best meets your needs / gaming requirements and budget.

Part of me wishes I never experienced high refresh rate gaming. I could have gotten by so much cheaper... lol

I don't have any preference? I've own GPUs from both side and only gave my own personal experience and I just want to see other people experience. I wasn't looking to start a debate at all.

I Just want to see out of the 3 choices which one you would pick, why you picked them and then share your experience here. If you just want to vote in the poll without any reply then that's perfectly fine aswell.

Save yourself a couple of bucks and go with the 1660ti, if I had to upgrade I would look at the xt5700 or even step further up to a 2070/super. At 1080p/60 no real reason to go past 1660ti
Check out www.gpucheck.com and do some side by side compares.

Haha yup... Diminishing returns, too. The higher you go, the more you spend and the less it matters. :D

To OP: get your top 5 favorite games and google them with the suffix GPU problems. Read some topics, see what really hits people hard and doesn't get a fix. The camp with the lowest hit rate is your next GPU. I will add to this that neither camp has shown to be flawless, and what's good today can be shit a year from now, but you'll still have the same GPU. Don't overcomplicate it. I think what matters more is the price comparison of a specific card matchup in your region that has a quality cooler and noise profile. They resell better so if you get a good deal on one of those, you stand to win a lot more than to let some temporary driver issues stand in your way.

FYI I didn't vote. Pointless poll, there is much more to the equation.

I would say go for the RX 5700 (especially at $330 now), but if you need drivers that isn't as buggy then go with either of those NVIDIA cards, whatever is in your budget.

RTX 2060 Super though, not the original 6 GB. Unless you can get it for > $280 or such.

the Asus RX 5700 XT is on sale for $359.99 at newegg right now. blower fan. just set a high fan curve and wear headphones though and no big deal.

I'm considering it... sell ends in 3 days.

That’s really not enough. Those reference blowers are horrible. More than noise, you’re going to have performance loss due to constant thermal throttling, and GDDR6 running at the ragged edge of what’s safe. Longevity issues abound in that sort of situation. I would never use one for anything beyond testing, and they should really just be considered a “bare” card without a cooler, if such a thing existed.

So that said, a capable aftermarket cooler is going to set you back about $75. Then there’s the time/effort to install it, and a mild risk of your warranty not being honored in the event of an issue. They’d need to offer a discount of at least $100 to be a viable option IMO.

Not saying I believe that’s going to actually happen; they’ll see how many they can move for $40 off first

even a high custom fan curve doesn't help it? I find that hard to believe

I guess that depends on what you’re willing to tolerate. Considering that reviews are done under ideal conditions, expect to have to crank your fan into the mid-upper 50dB range. Not worth it for $40 (to me), but to each their own.

I wear headphones 24/7 when gaming anyway, so not an issue for me honestly. I have owned blower styles in the past and they never bothered me. I might hold off though. I really want a 5800 XT

All well and good giving out prices but i'm based in the UK, you will never see those type of prices over here and the blower style cooler won't be ideal in a Corsair Carbide Air 240 White and realistically I don't really want to go messing with fan curves either. It will be a GPU that just slapped in and then receive regular driver updates if she's playing something new and regular routine maintenance.
