Nvidia 8500/8600 Series Overclocking and Feedback thread

well now a bad roms has been flashed onto it so i dont think it will abck up my original, jsut the bad one.

and i have 2 adapters in atm, the 8800GT and the one it now thinks is a 8600M GTS, so i dont want to now accidentally write over the 8800GT's bios....

here dude try this its a 8600GT you say? do you have the orig bios for it?

yeah i made a backup in windows, however thats the bios i modified and flashed on. i do have an original made from gpu-z ... G84.bin

mvktech.net has alot of bios's just go there find your brand and flash it

hey wolfe give me the details on your 8600 xfx nvidia etc.... and is it a GT or GTS ill hook you up with some solaris modz...if youd like.

its a XFX 8600GT XXX stock clocks of 680 core and 1600 memory

the stock bios is 60.84.58.00.70, and i tried to flash it back on but since now my 8600 thinks its a mobile GTS ... it says theres no match to flash the file to...

kk gimme a sec.

kk here you go remember the flash parameters youll have to reinstall drivers...but that should work i tweaked some stuff but your core mem and shader have been adjusted to match your cards original freq and type...it will show up as a xfx 8600GT at 680/1700/800

nvflash -4 -5 -6 modded.rom

if that doesnt work give me your gpu-z dump of the orig and ill see whats up :)

kk man remember to tell me how it goes :)

o shit wait dude ur in australia? do you use pal or ntsc? cause ill need to change the card bios for that.

well i got the stock bios back on ok, ended up getting gung ho and forgetting to put ur bios on the floppy, but with the nvflash -4 -5 -6 command and my 8800GT OUT of the box it worked fine, originally it almost forcebly overwrote my 8800...and i was all like *ESC ESC ESC CTRL+ALT+DELETE*

its so weird, ive done heaps of modified bios's before on heaps of cards and this is the only one thats screwed up, and in such a weird way.... i just dont get why it would think its a 8600M GTS considering all i did was upped the clocks on my original bios and flashed that....

so what did you tweak in your bios? heres my original.

ima also start writing up a 8800 tweak and info guide soon, prolly email it to ya when its done so you can go thru and edit and get it ready for a post

1st Overclock project - This any good

Was looking for info to overclock my new EVGA 8600 GTS. Ended up here. All stock cooling and no mods. Not sure what else to say right now. What can I do from here?

Thanks,

Trisail

first off, get rivetuner and find your max overclocks or use ntune, doesnt really matter.

Other things are this

that card is refrance PCB so a volt mod guide is avaible and i suggest getting at minimum a vf-900 to cool it voltmoded

all i modded was the preformance levels how it shows up did a fan mod etc...and of course made sure it showed up as a real 8600 not a mobile... but wait till i check ur orig to see if its pal or ntsc then after i repost up the modded one or tell you the one i posted above is fine go ahead and try to flash to that youll need to reinstall your drivers though but glad everythings getting better for ya.

all right wolf the orig bios i posted a couple posts ago will work your card doesn't use pal so were good.

hey solaris, your 8600gt bios is maybe off?

your bios says 00.05.00.12.45 and G84 Board p402h00
and mine says 60.84.58.00.70 and G84 Board p402h01

will yours work on my card?

ya its just because its been modified

cool well i used your tweaks and made a new bios running 742.5/1836/1700 so the core can ramp up a bit more but the memory wont budge.

does adjusting the voltage table and setting 1.4v actually result in 1.4v vcore?

Hey guys would it be worth selling my leadtek 8600gt to my friend and pick up a 8600gts or should I just slap some arctic silver 5 on the gt and bios mod it.

If I were to bios mod it am I able to bump the voltage higher than stock or does that need to be done via hardware mod. Also what would be a good speed for the Shader clock, I am unable to change it in Riva tuner. The shader can oc much higher than the core, right?

wait for 9600gt, it will replace the 8600 series and be FAR superior, twice as many Sp's, 12 ROP's up from 8, and the muchly needed 256bit memory bus.

Okay, sounds like its time to mod the heck out of my 8600gt then.

Last night I was able to oc it to core: 680, mem: 815, & shader: 1500 on stock voltage and cooling. Seemed to be really stable, ran all the way through 3dmarks06, got a score of about 5010. Temps were around 55c idle and 75c load. If I tried to oc it any higher I would get artifiacts or windows would freeze and I would have to reboot.

How much further do you think I could push it by modding the bios? Also if I get a bad flash, could I reflash it with the onboard video, or do I need a pci video card?

force the fan to run at 100% with ntune or rivatuner, that should give you some more headroom, you should see clocks of around 700/1700/1600 core/shader/mem
