NVIDIA Details its Resizable-BAR Feature Rollout, Eligible Products

Nvidia would have to release it for all the GPU types
then the manufs would have to do it

And they would simply not do it for discontinued products - look at all the fluff for backdating ryzen CPU support, the companies basically said to get F'd unless they were still selling them (such as B450 being supported when x370 was not)

Still up to the AIB partner to issue the BIOS update, not nVIDIA.

But then nvidia are the ones who get the bad PR over it, just like AMD getting bad PR over the backdated CPU support with all their chipsets
BIOS flashback was the best solution to that problem at least, but video cards arent so easy to BIOS flash

hell look at how we even have forum sections dedicated to BIOS flashing, and how it harms more often than it helps

I looked at your system specs and i'm concerned as to how 2x8 = 26
Also, the GTX 970 has 3.5GB VRAM and may be your problem, even at 768p
Oh my, haven't updated them in a while. 2x8 = 26... Where could the error be? ;)

When we left with just 3 major players i don't think they care about PR, just sales and decline of new sales dew to growing prices and clients switching to mobile devices or consoles. And even after all of that they just rising prices higher and higher "because of floods/fire/wild gorillas attacking facilities/..." and still produce 2 billions of variations of the same product within each generation.

Hell yea, it's crazy how many vbios flash fails happen every darn week!

And we all have to wait on Nvidia to release these bios updates to enable SAM... it's like a double edged sword.

You guys don't seemingly get how this works.

You update the mobo bios for support, and the driver has to offer support. The gpu vbios has nothing to do with this at all.

You apparently do not know how it works.

Our initial support for “Resizable BAR” is available now for GeForce RTX 3060 desktop graphics cards and GeForce RTX 30 Series laptops. Utilizing an advanced feature of PCI Express, Resizable BAR can increase performance in certain games.

Support for other desktop GPUs will follow in late March.

Late March, NVIDIA will release downloadable VBIOS updates for all Founders Edition GeForce RTX 30 Series GPUs to enable Resizable BAR, and likewise, partners will release VBIOS updates for their custom models, too.

Check back then for further information and instructions.

Lol, you are right I need to read.

They must have a bios side lock. There is no reason this needs a vbios side anything except control.

But what do I know? I'm only a friggin bios modder.

Nvidia has stated you need a VBIOS update for it to work - its on that nvidia page

yeah I got that now. It's fishy, and stinks of an artificial lock. I know for a fact the driver handles the BAR declarations.

What's hilarious though are the ppl out there right now who are acting like they are getting gains from SAM. lolzers

It's also on Nvidia's website on how to check if SAM is enabled, yet ppl keep posting their memory ranges from device manager resources as proof. Check for SAM as directed by Nvidia thru the Nvidia Console, sys info, SAM is either Yes or No. It's like hard to google or something...

They aren't entirely wrong. You can set a larger BAR yourself right now and memory ranges is how you tell if that happened. I set mine to 2GBs instead of 256MBs earlier.

But the gains are nill to none and it isn't technically SAM. But the driver IS forced to accept it. Hell, this'll even work on pascal.

It's not. Again read the info straight from Nvidia. SAM is only enabled in like 8 games and only on the 3060 and whatever laptop gpus.

Support for additional titles will launch alongside our VBIOS and Game Ready Driver update for the rest of the GeForce RTX 30 Series family late March.

I look forward to be it being pushed out in a crippled form that helps less than it was meant to

lol, but really probably... on point.

SAM or a larger BAR? Because it certainly was a larger BAR and the driver does accept it or you wouldn't get a driver load. Not that that does nearly anything for you without driver understanding the range can be used.

I literally said right in my post it wasn't SAM, just that that page in device manager isn't completely useless for verifying it.

You're one of these that needs to be right no matter what huh?

Now how am I supposed to answer something like that? But since you asked: Only on Thursdays.

I just like the truth. I've been wrong before (in this thread in fact) and will be so again. I did research on this a while back though so I do know something and I try and share:

Bios modding is kind of my thing, so I know when something stinks.

Like I wrote, there are lots of ppl on the internets claiming they got rebar (lol) running on Nvidia with benches to prove their perf gains. Is it true? Not according to Nvidia since they haven't even enabled it on all cards save a few exceptions. I dunno, I chalk this up to placebo.

Rebar lol. Fun term. Sure they can have rebar but they don't got SAM without the right stars aligning and my performance gains were more like losses.

I think at this point it may be possible to get it working

1. Updated AMD board
2. 3060Ti
3.use NvInspector to mod the game profiles to force it on
