NVIDIA to Unveil "Turing" Consumer Graphics GPU Next Month

NVIDIA is reportedly working on a TITAN V-esque surprise for March 2018. According to Reuters, which summarized the company's Q4-2017 results and outlook, the company is working on a new consumer-graphics GPU for launch next month, codenamed "Turing." This could be the codename of an ASIC or an SKU and not the architecture (which could be "Volta"). The Reuters report describes "Turing" as a "new GPU gaming chip." This unequivocally points to a consumer graphics (GeForce) product, and not a professional (Quadro), or HPC (Tesla) product.

Oh, I can read these things laid back since Nvidia started launching architectures high-end first... I wasn't paying the prices when high-end was in the $500 range, I'm surely not paying it now. Between them launching a new architecture and a $200-300 actual card, I'm able to read a ton of reviews so I'm well aware what I'm getting.

Just wild guess: maybe it's gaming Tegra with volta gpu to distinct it from automotive Xavier SOC. New android shield Turing console... Why would they call geforce gpu as Turing.

Prepare to pay premium for midrange. "Turing" is just a name, hopefully it will be as well done as the 9XX and 1XXX series, but at more reasonable prices and higher availability.

The way I ready it, "Turing" will be the variant of "Volta" inside a "Xavier" SoC "Tegra" product...unless nVidia now hides GeForce products behind names too, besides the uArch. New gen Shield?
Anyway, somebody needs to calm down with the codenames...

I heard Gamernexus say he believes the actual name for Ampere will be something else. Maybe it's Nvidia Turing.

Names mean very little, it's performance that matters. I'm very satisfied with how GTX 1080 runs 1440p, so I might settle for a xx70 card this time if it's within 5% of 1080Ti but ~150W.

Given the lack of any hype whatsoever, leaked benchmarks or other paraphernalia about new GPU's, this seems quite.... typical, at least for Nvidia.
No hype, no BS, just another new release. Sort of refreshing in tech these days.

Exactly... I don't navigate through the front page, just the forums. I am sure I am a minority there, but, it would still be nice to see at the bare minimum a link to the article...seems the new implementation is a bit disconnected from the comments/forums.

Ahh, so it's a codename for whole arch. That would mean next one is Turing not Ampere though... Hmm wondering chip naming, there already was GT100 from Tesla arch(rest is fine gt215 and gt218).

This card should be an exceptional crypto miner. They're obviously going after AMD/Radeon with this one since Radeon cards are great for mining Ethereum and nVidia has always lagged here. Ethereum is a "Turing" Complete blockchain.

Great move by nVidia; however, Ethereum's switch to Proof of Stake is likely later this year meaning these cards better be good at Equihash and the other mining algorithms or this is a bad move.

It certainly will be interesting to see what these new cards offer before they are all shipped off to Iceland. That might be the saving grace for AMD otherwise we are heading to another couple of years of complete total and utter domination from Nvidia interspersed with AMD leaks hyping another product that will ultimately fall short.
