Old PC Stopped Booting, Please Help

2005 would be DDR1, and most likely bad caps! IIRC, 2005 would be socket 939!

Well it's running ddr2 ram

Bad caps is possible, you don't always see it when they are bad, but to be sure a new or used good working PS is necessary now, then we can look further.

Yes i did see the video, without CPU cooler it will never work, many mobo's don't boot without a cooler attached! And that 12V1 socket must always be plugged in, it makes voltages for your CPU, if the same thing goes on an with a new PS, your mobo may be shorted somewhere. Because it switches off immediately when connected, that most of times imply a short and the PS is shutting down for protection.

Attached or plugged in? It has a fan too which is why I ask plugged in

Cooler must be connected to mobo, some mobo check if they see pulses from the tacho on the ventilator.

I'm almost sure there is a short somewhere, PS switches off immediately after power on with ATX12V1 connected. Don't bother try to boot without ATX12V1 plugged in, it won't. As said that connection generates the voltages needed for the CPU to work, without that the CPU will not work and no boot up.

If you know how to work with a multi-meter you can ohm out those connections to see there's a short in the ATX12V1 lines. Ventilator works, so i guess your PS is working fine, IMHO there's a short on the mobo. What happens without CPU and memory, ventilator attached to mobo? Beeping or ventilator on and not shutting down? If it still shutting down without CPU and memory, and ATX12V1 connected your mobo is dead... Or does it stay on ventilator running and beeping?

Either bad CPU or bad caps on the mobo. You could try another used PS, must not be new exactly. IIf it stiil the same, then consider you mobo or CPU is bad.

Yes that's good we know more already. Can be a dead CPU or your mobo is unable to make the voltages for the CPU because of bad caps. The only thing left is to try another PS from a friend or family somewhere or a computer shop willing to help you. You can measure the voltages with a multi meter on the ATX12V1, or ohm out the connection on the mobo for a short. Maybe you know someone that can help you with electronics?

I'm the only one that knows the most about computers in the family so right now I'm kinda my best bet for stuff over here.

Most of times a computer shop has old PS in stock that you could ask to try or buy very cheap price.

When you put the CPU in while its running it turn off too but I forgot to do that

The ATX12V1 only puts out 9 volts

Should be 12V at all times. So we where right in the beginning, a new ps could make this a very short thread.

If theres 4 wires 2 black 2 yellow wouldn't it be 18 volts if they both put out 9 volts or do batteries only do this?

Another thing; NEVER put a CPU in or out a socket when the mobo is on! You can burn your mobo or CPU to DEAD!

Do not measure on the cpu socket under the mobo, it has all kind of different voltages. that the mobo makes from the 12V power plug.

Only one thing to do, new power supply if you want to play with this mobo. Hopefully you did not kill it with putting CPU in and out while it's under power. Same goes for memory or cards, NEVER switch components with a computer powered on!!!

I understand that and if the new PSU doesn't fix the problem we know what's still or now is a problem

i think it will work with a new PS, if you connect all as it should be. And don't forget heat paste between cpu and heat sink.
