Only single ram channel works...

Have you considered just putting up with one RAM channel? Especially if it's not your primary PC, and you get the performance you need.

I have the same issue with an intel B660 motherboard, and running a i3 12100F with a single 16GB stick with a RX 5700. Still works fine in games with that combo.

Single channel memory loses performance but not exactly sinful!
The point of building this rig was to upgrade my sons current setup to something a bit better for his gaming needs. I'm reading that amd running in single channel isn't great for performance.

I wonder if there's any benchmarks comparing single channel performance vs dual? If 8gb in A2 and 8gb in B2 performs similar to say, 32GB in A2 then I'd consider keeping it for him. But my hunch says it will be drastically different.

Besides, I bought all these components recently, so I have time to return them as majority are from Ebay.

If it's something I threw together to be a router out of spare parts that would be one thing, but if you're going to actually use it regularly, especially game on it? Absolutely sinful. Don't get me wrong, happy it works for you, but that would drive me insane.

Keep it on topic.

I'd agree maybe 15 years ago, but that's definitely not the case today. Single channel has a very noticeable performance impact in many things today.

I've ordered an Athlon cpu and a like for like mobo from amazon. So within 2 or 3 days I'll know the problem. Found the athlon cpu cheap so I can resell on without losing.

Appreciate all the input.

B450 or similar board? B550 doesn't support Athlon AFAIK (just to clarify that we don't run into compatibility problems there..)

I meant for that Athlon :)
I confused...

I only have a b550 aorus elite v2. Nothing else. I bought a 2600g cpu that isn't supported on this board and now 3000g isn't supported either? Hmmmm. I'm just collecting CPUs then as a hobby

The 3000G can be compatible, but it depends on its revision. If it is a FH model it will work.

Google says it works but then I read what you said.. Kinda.. That sometimes doesn't and some people have used custom bios fw. Anyway.. My revision is 1.2, I'll do another search on it now.

Even if it works, would 3600mhz ram work with this athlon?

UPDATE

New motherboard arrived.. And...

Initially nothing was turning on apart from the rgb ram, turned out the flimsy cable attached to the back of the power button had come off.. Poor soldering from factory. Resoldered and all good.

New motherboard fitted and everything working good now. Just had to enable xmp.. That's it.

Thanks for all input in here.

Are you suggesting it was that poor soldering joint all along?

No no, this just happened now. It was working before with one ram installed, remember.

Maybe I knocked the power switch cable off, or maybe it fell off by itself. It's not the best quality.. It's a Cheap case.

Sorry. You are right - still insufficiently caffeinated this morning.

You say "cheap case" but sadly, poor soldering joints are an industry (as in "all" of electronics) wide problem. While they can be caused by poor technique, a bad soldering joint can also be caused by an impurity in the solder, or some contamination on the contact surfaces. Both of those issues are impossible to avoid 100% of the time - and will always be impossible to avoid until Man is able to create perfection 100% of the time.

Anyway, I am glad you spotted it and got it sorted out. And thanks for coming back with your followup post.

Happy Turkey!

Well, Happy Turkey eater!

Check your research. Klevv is sk hynix in house brand. Rather than sell the ics to other partners, they slap em on a pcb and sell them.
something new. ok.
