Origin can be good for something I guess

Best download speeds I've ever seen. Max Steam download I've got was 4.5MB/s, this was sustained 6 MB/s, mostly at 7 though.

And yes, I did purchase SimCity but only because I got DeadSpace 3 along with it for free.

Also, I purchased it from GreenManGaming and earned $10 credit. So I'm happy

I have also found that while steam will cap me at 5/6 MB/s i can get up to 15 MB/s sustained on Origin which is very refreshing especially when trying to download something in a timely manner.

I've had 18Mb/s (megabits) out of Steam, which is about the fastest my broadband connection will go, but that was some time back.

The other day, it gave me around 12Mb/s.

I usually get a maxed speed on both steam and origin, but I tend to grab my games late at night with not many people taking bandwidth from me.

With steam I found you have to find the right server to hit, even if they aren't the closest to you, some do much better than others on the transfer speeds.

Origin's displayed DL speeds aren't correct in terms of your internet connection (I think it is reading after the files become decompressed on your storage drive. Steam's is more accurate and will reflect what you get in say, speedtest.net.

ive noted the same thing i have an app for my g15 that displays bandwidth
steam is dead on accurate to the app origin reports about 1Mb/s higher then what it actually is

Good point. But anyway, Origin was indeed very fast for me on all downloads.

All these clients sometimes are showing wrong speeds. I'm having 10Mb/s internet connection what is about 1.25MB/s. Both, steam and origin while downloading games can show to me download speeds over 2MB/s what is obviously not true.

They could improve download speed calculating, that's all but will they ever do this? I doubt. Anyway, this is small and not important, not user-experience-breaking bug.

Good explanation there, but I'm still happy I downloaded a 10GB game in 25 minutes. I still remember 56k modems and dial up so these speeds are just fantastic.
