Plain and simple. Is this possible and how easy is it to do?

everything is overclockable some aren't so easy like crappy macs, torch it with a flamethower and post the video here

Make a mac pie, bake it.

I like the idea.....mmmmm, apple

So it sounds like it is hard. I'm not familier with Mac bios construction, as I only work on campus compys in class. Its built on a Unix platform though correct?

If sarcasm serves me right, OCing a Mac peretty much would eliminate central heating in my apartment right?

macs dont have a BIOs.

well, im not 100% sure. but i dont think they do...

c2d macs have a normal bios
ibm g's have a different gay bios afaik
no oc capability in bios at all

thanks for the knowledge. =]

Well. guess that answers my question.

Wait...what about Macs with Windows on it. (at the same time, is only XP avaliable for Macs or is Vista workable as well)

they are both workable, you can either use:

bootcamp, which allows you to run Vista or XP natively

or

Parallels or VMFusion, which allows your to run Vista or XP inside of the Mac OSX

Edit:
but Parallels has been benchmarked against VMFusion, turns out Parallels is better by like 3% or something...

You can install Windows via Bootcamp and overclock the video cards using software, but other than that, no you can't overclock Macs.

If it has a common clock generator then systool or other windows based overclocking tools should be able to OC it. If you are looking for a BIOS overclock google might be a better resource, and or you will ahve to do some resistor/pencil mods to gain extra voltage. i dunno if anyone has a pin (or should I say pad) mod for the C2D yet to change or unlock multipliers.

Macs made within the last few years don't have a BIOS, they boot with EFI. Slightly different but same purpose.

Older Macs have been overclocked, such as G4 Powermacs. I've seen overclocking done on G4 Mac Minis by changing solder bridges, but other than that it's unlikely.

Mac Pro and Powermac aside, the case designs are rather minimalistic so you'd face overheating issues very quickly.

even c2d macs use efi?

temporary hijack,

Whos ass is that rob? It looks gooooooood.

What's EFI? I know it's not electronic fuel injection for sure. :p

oh
nice to know that, macs always need to be different... (gay)

Maybe if you overclock it, since everyone apparently believe the mac to be ghey, it will grow greenery instead of getting hot?

BIOS is over 20 years old. It's basically a much improved BIOS. But Vista AFAIK is the first version of Windows to support it, and hardware adoption has been slow. Since Apple controls both the OS and hardware on their end they were able to switch to it much sooner and easier.

There was an article on Bit-Tech about EFI a few weeks ago, you guys might wanna check that out.

Mac's with Intel chips can be overclocked. Easy, no. But you can apply the same methods people have been using with inner pin connects. Specific pins when connected can set CPU Multi and default FSB. You would just have to figure out which pins those are.

bah you beat me to it pin mod the fsb...google your chip and the chipset on your mac find if the next step up is compatable ie 800->1066,1066->1333 and so on

Any one remember the old Pentium 1 boards where they had dip-switches or jumpers to determine the FSB. So when you got a new CPU with a higher clock you had to change the dip switches/jumpers (depending on motherboard) to match the speed of the new CPU. For example I had a Gateway with a Pentium MMX @ 166Mhz stock, I went into my booklet and set up the jumper settings for a 200Mhz CPU, and booted it. Yes, this was my first overclock. I overclocked a Pentium MMX 166Mhz to 200Mhz. When I did it I was around 11 and I didn't know what I was doing, and didn't know it was called overclocking till just a couple years ago.
