Overriding resolution (AMD)

How to override resolution or how to make resolution above 4k if possible at all?

I get this message in Radeon display Settings for custom resolution:

"The custom resolution settings are not compatible with this display. Reconfigure your settings and try again."

I have an Asus Proart 4k 32" monitor.

Why i cant override resolution on this monitor because i can do it on my other Asus 27" monitor

System Name Raspberry Pi 7 Quantum @ Overclocked.
AMD Virtual Super Resolution (VSR) allows games to render at higher resolutions (above the native resolution of the display) and then rescales them down to a lower native display resolution. When this feature is enabled, virtual resolutions beyond the native resolution of the display will be available in a wide variety of games and applications, including the Windows® Desktop.

I know about VSR but how come I cant find it the settings? My video card supports that feature unless AMD removed it from one of the driver updates.

Odd

EDIT: I figured it out this 32" 4k monitor sucks it doesn't support VSR but the 2k 27" does. Idiocy :kookoo:

It's not the monitor, it's an AMD limitation. They don't support VSR when the monitor is already 4K. This is supported on an Nvidia GPU.

Ahh, didn't know that. Well that is terrible so the only way I can go 5k on a 4k monitor is buying NVIDIA :(

Thanks!

Can AMD 7900XTX support that feature going 5k on a 4k monitor?

The hardware can. The drivers cannot. AMD needs to update VSR so it can be enabled on high-resolution panels, in the meantime, only Nvidia GPUs can do this.

Is there a 3rd party software that can do it?

Weird, my Gigabyte M27U (4K150Hz) can do VSR...And I'm sure I have tried some higher than 4K resolution in Forza Motorsport 8. ( I have forgotten what will happen in desktop for that monitor.)

I'm afraid not. If you tried CRU, it'd input it as an actual unsupported resolution in the EDID, and all you'd get is a blank screen.

You sure you didn't just enable SSAA in game? AFAIK, VSR is unsupported at above 1440p monitors, but it's been a while.

Guide in one of answers here. Possible with rDNA 2/3. For higher resolutions in games needs of models with enough performance for that task.

I see, then it's a pre-RDNA "limitation". Screwed up Pascal does it too, but oh well. I stand "corrected". Ugh. AMD!!!!

Maybe my video card is too old and the drivers are from 2022.
Errr... does that mean your GPU is pre-Polaris?

isn't it a DISPLAY determined option?! When you first install drivers you get a pop up from AMD Adrenaline saying something like "We've detected a high DPI display. You can enable VSR to use higher resolutions" or something like that....it sure as shit doesn't say it like "We've detected a GPU that allows VSR"

so sure makes me think it's display dependent as much as it could be GPU dependent.

Dont know what is Polaris. My gpu is Radeon R9 Fury series it's 8 years old now.
def pre polaris. polaris era would be like the RX 5XX family

R9 Fury series driver support has been discontinued. It is pre-Polaris. There's no further updates for you.

It's about time you upgrade to something more recent. RX 6600 is a decent option of a relatively low price. Not great, not terrible. Consumes 2 times less power, generates 30 to 100 percent more FPS depending on a game.

It's actually about time for me to upgrade my whole system since it's going to be 9 years old this summer but I keep postponing it...

Solid build, go for it if you have the money :)

So to recap, my "outdated" info applies to your R9 Fury, but looks like AMD's newer drivers can enable VSR at 4K, at least to 5K resolution.

Peepos with 7900XTX, does it allow 8K like Nvidia's, too?

Exactly my thoughts. Did you mean 8000 gpu, when is that coming out?

In 1 to 1.5 years' time. I really ought to grab a Radeon again. Becoming routinely out of date with it...
