PC Not working after reapplying thermal paste

Don't kid yourself, if you had time to ask a disingenuous question such as " why would wiring be an issue" then you also have time for "word play" Second of all why on earth would you say it wouldn't matter how the cpu power is hooked up? that's ridiculous, it's designed to be put in one way and was installed incorrectly.

Cause you can only plug them in one way. And it wont matter if it's on 8 pin or 4 pin, there are few boards (top dual 8 pin boards) that this would actually matter on....

step 1 of troubleshooting is plug things in properly. The way it was plugged in was not correct.

I must have missed that part. My bad there.
All of 30 second fix, we are on page 5 and yet no resolve has come from eps connectors.

So what's step two now?

A word of advice:
I know as fact with the split 4 pin connector for CPU power (4 + 2 plug) you CAN plug the wrong one/side in and it not work. I've done it before, what happens is if you happen to have it turned 90 degrees one way and you use the wrong plug it WILL go in but the latch to the header won't be on the same side as the locktab. I ran into that one not long ago, it felt OK when I plugged it in but the machine was "Dead", woudn't do anything.

After doublechecking the connectors is when I caught it.
Plugged in the correct side/half of the plug, made sure the lock and tabs were aligned to confirm it was the right half and it worked.
Just make sure it's done and checked as I had to.

I don't know if this applies to this problem but had to say it just in case.

There have been plenty of good suggestions about what he could do after step 1 in this thread, but you must have missed those too.

I'm not entirely convinced he's even past step 1 yet though...If something as basic as that was hooked up wrong and there are stand-offs missing the first thing i would do is go through the system entirely and look at the basics because clearly whoever put this together did not have them in mind.

Standoffs - they're an odd sort in my book. I've actually had a system not boot after moving things into a new case because I brought over the standoffs that came with the old case. I knew the system ran in the old case, it was just working a short while before, but I couldn't get the system to boot in the new case....so I resorted to taking everything out of the new case, setting it up on a cardboard box and she booted up just fine.

I move everything into the new case, set it all up, double check all the cables, press the power button.....nothing. Son of a gun. Only thing that changed was the case, so either the wiring for the power button was bad or something else....

I decided to take the standoffs for the new case and use them instead of using the ones from the old case and everything booted up once installed in the new case.

Only thing I can think of is that the standoffs for the new case, they were just a hair taller (1-2mm taller) than the standoffs from the old case. Perhaps that tiny height difference was enough to make sure the MB was up high enough so it wasn't touching something in the new case that was causing it to short....?

Anyway - I guess we wait to hear from the OP as to where he's at. Right now, I honestly feel like he's not connecting the power cables up correctly without some confirmation pictures. A few things need to happen first, in my opinion:
1) getting and installing all necessary standoffs
2) proper power cables plugged into the proper locations
These two things can easily done and also taken pictures of to help folks here see how it all looks...then if problems continue, move on from here.

alright everyone, i’m just looking for answers at this point. go ahead roast me for about anything and yes i did buy this pc from a friend. i am perfectly fine if this is the answer. do you guys thing that the cpu is the issue. I was already planning on upgrading to a ryzen 7 please let me know.

I don't know, I'm not the PC Guru, but in my opinion, you probably need to find a friend or someone that is a Guru to check it out. I do believe if it was setting in front of me, I could probably figure it out, hopefully you can find some physical help to help you, some things are just really hard to troubleshoot on the internet.

You still need to do the basic things first before wanting to just throw money at it....you can certainly buy all the hardware you want, but if you don't know what the problem is you might as well just wire me the cash and I can spend it on random things instead.

If you haven't acquired extra standoffs for the missing spots in your case, in my opinion, you need to do this. If you don't wish to, then fine, we'll move past it.
Also, you haven't provided us with pictures of proper cables being plugged in.....there's really not much else we can offer for you to do in terms of help.

We're not there with you. We can't see what you're doing. We don't know how else to proceed without help from you on your end.

I'm not sure what else you expect from members on the forum here, lots of ideas have been tossed out. You've said you've tried some things and nothing changes, but the minimal things necessary to test a system haven't been done; like building it outside of the case, on top of a cardboard box.

I’ve tried everything you say here. Still not turning on, the only thing I can think of is my CPU, hopefully someone thinks the same as me

What Mr. Neat said! Also, when you have it built outside of the case on a box, if it doesn't fire up, try another power supply, it not then, do you have a file 13 near by.

No other power supply to test out. Also i’m not sure what you mean by a file 13

Bring it to a shop for definitive testing.
The only way you are going to find out if it is the CPU that is faulty is by testing it in another Motherboard, and the only way to test your Motherboard is with another CPU.

Update for anyone wondering. I ordered a ryzen 5. if this doesn’t work big deal i will still keep this cpu and buy a new motherboard.
