PCI-e 1.1 to PCI-e 2.0 no performance increase?

Well i have a 8800GT and the is no performance increase from running it at PCI-e 2.0 from PCI-e 1.1:confused: only thing i can see is it overclocks better
 
pci-e 2.0 just increases the amount of power that can be drawn from the mobo. there is no reason to be surprised there's no performance increase.

If you can OC better for some reason on PCIe 2.0, then you will game better due to higher FPS? :D

I thought PCIe2.0 had more bandwidth (along w/extra juice), maybe that was total allocatable between slots...I don't quite remember though.

well i don't see how this helps that much in game play, but it looks good for ocing

But overclocking does help for games, so if it helps with overclocking then therefor it helps with gameing.:)

each individual slot still uses 16 lanes.
the pci-e 2.0 standard allows for more voltage to be supplied through the motherboard and for the chipset to be able to allocate 4 separate buses each utilizing 16 lanes, thus allowing for FULL SPEED quad graphics(x16 x16 x16 x16.)
 
well a higher oc means new GPUS will run at a high clock speeds

but it also means you're drawing more juice from the psu, because now you are not only powering an oc'ed card through the pci-e power connector, but also through the mobo.
 
PCI Express 2.0 would only benefit you under these scenarios:

1. When you're running a SLI or Crossfire board that splits 16 lanes into two x8 lanes to serve two video-cards. The bandwidth served to each card would be nearly the same as PCI-E 1.1 x16. This is a bonus when you're using budget multi-GPU boards like those based on the AMD 790X (that splits x16 to two x8, implements PCI-E 2.0) and the future NForce 650i SLI successor that would implement PCI-E 2.0

2. With single card-multi GPU's: Where the video-card uses two GPU's like the future ATI R680 and the NVidia GeForce 9800 GX2 where the almost double bandwidth helps these cards a great deal.

3. Better OC'ing where the 150+ W power supplied to the card helps OC'ing big deal.

4. Crossfire X where a total of 32 PCI-E 2.0 lanes provide the theoritcal bandwidth of 64 PCI-E 1.1 lanes that would comfortably run four cards.
 
PCi-e2.0 just allows more power to go thru the slot so when cards start using less power and PCI-e2.0 they wont need power adapters.
 
PCIe 2.0 allows more power and doubles the effective bandwidth from 2.5 GT/s to 5.0 GT/s

By the way, what motherboard are you using? I see a 400 mark increase in 3DMark 2006 between PCIe 1.1 and 2.0 on my RV670 on RD790.
 
PCI Express 2.0 = dubble the bandwith of PCI Express 1.0 and more power via the bus
a motherboard with four PCIe 2.0 x8 slots is the same speed of four PCIe 1.1 x16 slots

one PCIe x1 2.0 slot is a PCIe x2 1.1 slot
and so on ;)
 
i have 2x PCI-e 2.0 at 16X or 3x PCI-e 1.1 slots at 16x?
 
You have 2x PCI-E 2.0 slots and 1x PCI-E 1.1 slot. The slot with the odd colour is the 1.1 slot.
 
my slots are PCI-e 1.1 and 2.0 i can have 3 8800Ultra's in tri sli at 16x or 2 9800GTX's in PCI-e 2.0 at 16x all my slots are the same colour

PCI Express is a standard, so every card will work at the default speed etc ;)
 
so thats just evga try to make people buy there cards :rolleyes:
 
it does increase the available bandwidth but today's applications (unless multi gpu) dont need that. its like going on a 8 lane vs. 4 lane highway with normal traffic. nothing to be gained.
 
its no good telling em wizzard most wont believe u.. he he

theoretical extra bandwidth when the hardware comes along that might need it.. plus extra power thru the mobo slots lessening the need for extra cables..

all these new "standards" are the same.. nothing brings an immediate gain.. it does sell new hardware thow..
