PerfCap Reason PWR / GPU load 99% (4 x 3090 RTX) - Workstation Rendering issues

theoretically if it renders fast enough it won't spend enough time at load to heat soak lol
Ironically, the rig I built cut the previous 5hr jobs to 1.5hrs, so now the artist is making jobs that are larger and longer because he couldn't do that before. He's able to take on more jobs, billables etc etc so it's like the load just keeps scaling up and up.

obviously, the solution is to keep adding hardware until he runs out of stuff to render

could always fill the loop with NOVEC lol

this thread really needs to be moved out of the gpu-z and into the graphics card support section
 
This is just a base line, this is not accounting for boost speeds of the cpu or gpu.


Get a gpu-z screenshot of all 4 GPUs
Here ya go! I sent a lot of your suggestions to the guys who put it together for me. Waiting to hear back.

Yeah seems to have evolved that way, originally it was a GPU-Z related post, but the more we uncovered the more it leans elsewhere.
And just like thesmokingman says, the render times never decrease, the work I produce gets better and better.

FYI this rig will be left on days to render at times, and nearly every single night I leave it around 11pm to render till 7-9am. So its never resting.

Also just wanted to reiterate! I'm not planning on boosting this or anything, literally just want to be able to work and render without frying my GPU or anything. Just a solid beast of a workstation :)

if its going to spend hours at load then you need more psu and that active backplate
sustained load near 100% is not going to be good for the long term health of the power supply and the vram will thank you for running cooler by not dying in a year (yes this is a thing)
loads look fine other then its screaming at you for more juice
 
Holy shart man, look at those temps. You had someone build this thing? Whomever is not qualified to imo cuz they know jack about this, no offense. Those temps are criminal!

he doesn't have the active backplate which is NOT Helping also 4 3090s what looks like a 280 or maby a 360mm trying to cool it

and a thin 240mm for the cpu? also using corsair stuff which is MEH in my book

i am sorry man but you need to step back here and re-think this you need way more cooling and more power

you have near 1700W of heat being pumped into the gpu loop that is almost enough to boil the water

You don't NEED the active backplate and it doesn't matter, those temps are ridonkulous, barely any difference from air. I think he needs to rethink the person who thought this all out too. Whomever did this is a moron. Btw, I'm not using an active backplate either and my junction temps are very reasonable, 60-70 max load.

I was more concerned with the VRAM temps being >85c sustained for several hours affecting the longevity I don't care what micron says cold day in hell I let any component sustain that long term lol
id crame the biggest meanest rad you can up top and tie it all in as one loop get the backplates on and make sure the pumps and fans are screaming as fast as they will go

I suppose looking at that rig again. You might as well go all in on active plates since that whole case needs to be tossed out and the whole thing rethought out. Who does this, put together 1700w - 2000w of load and build it with a 500w loop, like wtf?
 
@aims_fx go here pick yourself up two of the THICCist and the LONGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGist rads that will fit

@thesmokingman hes got some room in that case he just needs more rad and I don't know what his fan/pumps are set to but I doubt 100%

its possible to cool 1800-2000w with a single triple and have good temps
4x A8000s and dual xeons <70c
just gotta go big and use the good stuff
the 1000D will hold up to 4 480MM rads

That has what to do with OP's build? The machine tested by Linus is again another silly review. They used that rig for minutes and it crashed in some benches too. And in some of the benches the rad became hot to the touch after 5 minutes. Now go and run that thing for 8 hours and then tell me how the cooling is. It's physics, you cannot pump 1700w sustained for hours with minimal cooling capacity and not end up with shit temps.

I guess I am mad because its usually my job to crap all over somebody's build
but srs yea there is a lot wrong here is it fixable without tossing it all absolutely
will he ever be able to close the case side panel .... well that's between him and whatever deity he believes in :roll:
 
I'm just trying to highlight to the OP that whomever he placed his trust in, doesn't know how to balance load vs cooling here and imo it's criminal. How much wasted time, money, and effort has the OP wasted due to his pro's lack of experience. I find it negligent...

Yeah the computer shop who put it together said they had extensive knowledge and experience building workstation PCs for VFX artists, Rendering etc. I'm beginning to think they lied. I went to about 12 different shops explaining what I needed and most were just experienced with gaming PCs and weren't comfortable in building one for 3D animation.

I went a little pyscho at the owner yesterday and I'm going to go into the shop with all the info I'm picking up from this thread. I tried my best to do some research but I'm also stretched for time, I work 100 hour weeks, so I thought my best interest was getting people who actually knew to build it (so I thought) what they were doing this way I didn't fuck anything up myself and waste time trying to figure out what went wrong.

There is a Corsair radiator XR5 420mm and a Corsair Hydro X Series XR7 480mm in the build.

Are you guys able to give me a breakdown list of what you would do to update this build?
AKA add some active backplates, extra 420mm radiators (happy to remove all the fans), an extra PSU if the loop is taking away 500w etc
This way I can just go into the shop and be like 'listen up mofos...this is what needs to be done' haha (or I find someone more competent)

The temps I posted are hitting literally after 2minutes of rendering...scared to see what happens after 24hrs + (which is regular from my side btw). Longest render I did was 72hrs.

Do you have a recommendation for which software to manually adjust the pumps and fans? I use iCUE for the fans and have them all on Extreme settings.

Update: My computer just turned off mid render just now. I assume thats because its not getting enough power from the PSU?

ok so the pictures help more but for rendering its best to have it all tied in as one loop so you get as much cooling as you can for the components doing the work and since rendering is not going to hammer both the gpu and cpu at the same time

and yes hard power-offs are usually the psu hitting its limit but with the cooling sit god knows if something is getting too hot ....

so now we are at a crossroad you can either try and unfubar this yourself and go back to the shop and raise holy hell

but yea if the case will take QUAD 480s then as much radiator as you can cram in there, active backplates bigger pumps more fans All of the cooling everything

and yea you are probably going to end up putting an additional SFX power supply in to free up power for the GPUs IIRC the 1000D has a spot for an additional SFX PSU

edit: if you can get the coolant temps that would help us direct you on what's gonna help the most I don't know if your pump/res combo has sensors

I just dropped off the computer at another shop. This was the shop I wanted to go with originally (who specialise in workstations and custom loops) but they were busy for months before they could start, and I couldn't wait that long so I had to find an alternative. Already they've said a few things ppl here are saying, but they will get back to me in the next day with solutions. Will let you know how this goes.
