Hi,

I might not understand this correctly, but i think theres a problem. Sometimes when i play L4D and have WMP open, it minimises L4D and asks me to close something. This is what im thinking is the issue, i have 4 GB installed, so why is there a lack of memory spare? Here's a screenshot for you:

Thats when im just on my desktop, nothing stressful running. The bit im not sure about is the 'Physical Memory bit' , it says 3326. Surly that should be closer to 4096?

Is there something wrong with this?

Thanks in advance.

try disabling multicore rendering on L4D. Mine errors all the time when multicore is enabled.

ill try that. But in still unsure as to why its only showing 3/4 of my RAM.

You have your page filing turned off..set it to system managed size and click set!!

I didn't notice that LOL set your page file that might be the culprit

your seriousley running vista with no pagefile :slap:

and btw even when you turn it on it will still show as having very little memory "free" as vista caches your memory, it just utlises it better than xp and you have more than the 73mb which windows is leading you to belive.

Ok, does this look right. I put 2GB more in today so i have 6GB in total.

Also, is there any FREE program to measure RAM temps?

most memory dont have a temp sensor on it unless you put a temp diode on the memory that will give you reading.

ok, Forget that then. Ill use the power of touch.

What about the other problem?

Check your mobo BIOS options to check there isn't a mapping devices/memory outside the 3gb sector or something along those lines, i had to do that on my old mobo for it to support >3.75 gb of memory in my system.

If you go start menu> run (may need to type "run" in search box to choose it) and type "dxdiag" then press enter. What memory does it register being installed in there?

You sure you have 64 bit Vista? Was it retail bought? If not, you could've acquired through questionable means a mislabeled version.

Good point, OP when you run dxdiag as described above can u post a screenshot of the first window that loads up, if you have a 64 bit OS you should get the option to run dxdiag in 64 bit mode (makes no difference to what dxdiag reads, just shows you have a 64 bit OS).

just about to say the same i have 32 bit xp and it only lets me have round 3 gigs worth of physical memory when i have four installed.

3326MB

If i got Start > Rightclick Computer > Properties > It says "64-bit Operating System"

Edit: I get the option to run in 64bit on 'dxdiag'. Its a button on the bottom bar

Looks like you need to change the setting of the memory remap feature in you BIOS (under northbridge settings). You need to make sure this setting is enabled else you can't use 3gb> ram with the OS.

To get to the setting go in your BIOS "advanced" tab>"chipset">"north bridge configuration" the option is called "memory remap feature".

If it was enabled then it isn't that which is causing the problem, but it's good to check it now.

ive looked in BIOS and it was set to 'Enable'

Hmm, i'd have thought it would be that.

You are definately in a 64 bit os too, other than a problem with one of your ram sticks (even then i can't see why it would be limiting your memory to the 32 bit limit) i can't think of what will be causing this, sorry :(. Hopefully one of the other members can offer some more insight..

I have also checked the spec of your board and it can fully support upto 8gb of ram, so it's not even that which is causing the problem.

It's alright, i'll just wait for someone. Thanks for the help so far.

Did you enable your page filing like i told you?

Look in the first box on the left.....Do you see where you have no page filing checked!!!
Go back in there and check system managed size and click set.
