c-mon guy's, it a little off topic;)

anyways ive spent a while fiddling with the card, and flashed a modded bios on it this is one where the clocks have been turned down......
managed to get rid of a lot of artifacts, but im still gettin little green dots....dotted around the place, i tryed flashing again with even lower clocks but failed cuz i imagine as soon as they get too low you need to change the timings
as to what the guy said, he lied, or should i say he was ecinomical with the truth, quite clever imo but he is a bastard
if he had said....
as soon as you turn the pooter on it gos crazy, no one would have bid on it
the way he worded it put an element of hope that it was just another ati card overheating under load,

give this a try. Take off the stickers, verrrrryyy carefully as not to damage them, try heating them up a bit maybe.

Remove the heatsink and clean off the thermal paste

Soak the card in 90% or better rubbing alcohol, and scrub with a toothbrush. Leave it out to air dry(maybe use a hair drier to speed the process, make sure to dry out under IC's and stuff), and then put everything back on. then give it a shot. He may have screwed up with a volt mod. Maybe he got some thermal paste under the RAM chip, thats a possibility also.. scrub under the ram if you can get to it.

You can try to close another 4 and if necessary 8 pipes and to see when the artifacts will disappear and whether. After that if you find the bad pipe quad to close it and to use the card like X800SE (8 pipes). If you can't do it yourself I can help you. Just let me know.

Hey dolf, I think an article or sticky on how to TURN OFF pipes, in case of a bad core, would be interesting for everyone.

To mcfly999... I'm sorry, but you got pwned by the ebay guy. Draw a line under the wasted time and money. File a dispute on ebay and a claim on paypal. I got ripped off once, when a guy sold 3x P4C800 mainboards which he claimed were "untested". No notice about not working. Turned out NONE of them worked. Well by the laws of probability, you cant have 3 mainboards ALL FAIL just by chance. The guy clearly knew they didn't work. Unfortunately, it wasn't a paypal transaction. (Germany). And the guy never answered my emails. Naturally, if I ever meet him (and know it's him)... he's dead.

There both good ideas buddy:)
it would be interested if i can use the card as a x800se cuz even with 8 pipes it will pawn my 6600 wouldnt it?
i will have a look at the bios files for a 2ns x800se rom and try and flash tommorow, i might get lucky and disable the bad part of the core,
thats if it is the core..... but ive seen artifacs like this when i re-enabled the locked pipes in rivatuner for a 6200/6600 mod a while ago, pity there isnt a program that can do the things rivatuner can do 4 ati:(

Video cards are a bad thing to get off from ebay. Be thankful that you actually got your card, I never even recieved the one that I bought.

i feel for you buddy, theres nothing worse than having the antitipation of a new piece of hardware shattered:(

but this talk has got my brain going.....

now if only one of the origional 3 quads are working ill get a usable card, right?
but then there is the chance of the hardlocked quad, as far as i can see the hard mod has never been even tryed on this card.....if my card can be modded, i could get it working again
what do you guys think?

I gotta agree with Ket on this one... it's definatly memory related. It could be that the memory has been damaged, but there is a possibility that there's simply some Thermal paste that's gotton underneath one of the chips and is causing your problems, in which case you might be able to clear it out by squirting some Isopropyl Alchohol underneath the chip.

If you can't fix it, give the seller a hard time, and complain to paypal about it. People shouldn't be allowed to get away with ripping people off like this.

woah, matrix edition x800 :D

I'm fairly sure it's the memory, but if a chip has been damaged, there's no way of fixing it :(

ok m8, thx 4 looking:)
so if its the memory, would i have a chance of loosening the timeings and lower the clocks?
could that make it better?
thats a bummer, i at least had a chance if it was the core:(:twitch: :twitch:

Lower the memory clocks and try to find artifact free frequency. Most probably that is memory related problem. Try the same thing with the core too.

wow that card is screwed
i got an x800 with vivo, and my mate flashed it to GT speeds for me (PE edition bios wasnt available)...just getting the card flashed right made me nervous.

We flashed the card like 6 times, getting artifacts each time (even within seconds of booting the computer) until we got the right bios working...scared the crap outta me :p
