Well, in all honesty, I wouldn't mind a good remake of the original with all new graphics, all new audio and all models and levels redesigned from scratch into something more modern. Black Mesa showed how its done. It was something familiar about Half-Life, but it was so more. It all felt like you've seen it somewhere, but it was modified enough to feel like you're experiencing a whole new thing. And it was good. Really good. I like that with games that I loved in the past. I can't replay them again because it just doesn't feel the same because I've already experienced them. But such redesign make them interesting again. Duke Nukem 3D has a huge potential for that and it could just as well become the actual Duke Nukem Forever even though it would actually be the same old game. Just in new "HD".

I too loved Black Mesa. Funny thing is that I was never able to finish HL1, but HL2 was on another level, having played it all the way through 3 times over a couple of years.

Having played the Black Mesa remake when it was free, I can tell you that a lot of this is due to the fantastically atmospheric HL2 graphics.

Unfortunately, BM isn't finished yet and I only played part of it, so I'll buy it on Steam when it's complete and finally get to finish HL1.

I think this will be another "we can't come up with a new idea so let's upgrade a classic game with improved graphics" game but I will throw a few dollars at it if they don't muck it up by changing it from what it was.

Yes, it has MANY, many improvements over the old free mod. The only portion not finished is Xen. It has been supremely well done, and is an improvement on HL1 in many ways. It is well worth the price to be paid for it. It will give you, as is, 25-30 hours of fun!

So, they are just making old games work on new systems and they're adding few extra levels. I don't want to be smug, but GOG already delivered that ages ago. What's the point? They didn't even bother to make a proper remake. Imagine how cool it would be to replay the same game we already know, but expanded into proper 3D with fully redesigned everything? Imagine it like what Black Mesa was to original Half-Life. I'd pay for that. But I ain't paying for this.
