Hi, I have a couple questions concerning this mod. I am only intrested in doing the gpu volt mod. I want to try and see if it worth the effort. I have an x850 pro bios modded to an x850 xt pe. it runs 520/600 stock right now on aftermarket air cooling. I'm not looking for the insane clock speeds most of you are getting, but at least a 550 on the core. Can I just do the vpu mod for the core, and not do the memory mods if i just want to slightly increase the clock speed of the core?

Thanks, and im sorry if some of that didnt make sense, im a noob

Yeah, it's perfectly ok to only do the vgpu mod, but unless your cooler is up to it, don't exceed 1.5v, and try to keep the temps below 70c. You should get to 550mhz without problems.

Here's my x800xl voltmods:

As you can see from the pics, i made a nifty measuring point on each of the vmods by hot gluing a piece of soldier to the top of each resistor. This makes measureing the voltage easy!

The left resistor is for the vgpu as you can probably see, unfortunatly the mod isn't effective, and only increases temperatures, so that one's just sat their giving me the option to toast the card if i decide i want a new one! :D

The two on the right are vdd and vddq mods, i love those! Originally i had a max of 555mhz on the mem, now with 2.4v vdd and 2.05v vddq i can achive 610mhz :)

I'd like to thank urlyin for posting the vmods, very useful! Thanks ;)
lol infrared...whered the card go

LOL, it's burried under those wires and big-ass metal plate somewhere :p

I think that's my old dead x800xl, the R430 did absolutly nothing if you gave it more voltage

EDIT: No wander the mods shorted out... look how much exposed copper wire there is :banghead: I insulated the mods on my x800gto2

I don't feel like dismantling the water loop in order to take decent pics of the card itself, so here's a snap featuring vmods and the vGPU, vDD and vDDQ measuring molex.
vGPU: 1.73V
vDD: 2.45V
vDDQ: 2.40V

Best 3DMark05 result @ 660/645: 8189

Planning to pushing it until it smokes - or my X1900GTs arrive.
:D

IIRC, they were salvaged from an old PSU. Or a 15" Panasonic CRT.

lol... these 3D mark results make me feel like ordering a X800XT from ViperJohn.

So how much in USD does it cost to order and ship from overseas?

You can always send him an email.

To be honest, at the prices the x800/850 cards are now, it's almost worth it to try the mods yourself... the cards cost only $100 ish now. :)

You can easily hit 8,000 in 3dmark05... I hit 7,800 without voltmods with a 3ghz dual-core AMD. You maybe even hit 9,000 if you go nuts with volts...

X800XT AIW with zalman heatsink, and an air deflector made from the bottom of a plastic food container. It has an opening at the bottom for the zalman fan, and is held against the heatsink by four zip-ties. The purpose is the direct the airflow upward, as the exhaust is at the top of the case.

The whole Project
