Post your Speedtest.net Speeds!

Fiber, not symmetrical but work quite nicely for 24€/month

Got a new plan.... and its half the price of my old plan... but I had to do the one thing I hate doing.. signing contracts. But the isp gives me no choice, like here have 250gbps speed for double the price of 1gbps speed if you want month to month.

I don't even care so much about speed, 300mbps was more than enough. Just wanted a cheaper price without a contract ( you never know what might happen in life) yet that was not an option. So I had to relent as I can't afford to keep throwing that money away every month to maintain my internet independence. So I'm locked in for 2 years.

I understand why Canada's internet is so pricey, I mean its a huge country geographically with a tiny population. So it makes sense, but that doesn't make it suck any less.

EDIT: Interesting, this speed is 150mbps faster on my phone.... I wonder if using an ethernet cable on my main machine is holding me back.... it is a rather old one.

"Downgraded" from Symmetrical Fiber to Xfinity 1GbE Cable. Lost a quite a bit of upload, which was expected, but I didn't need it. Saved a ton of money.

So after doing a speed test on my phone and seeing higher speeds, I tried switching to wifi on my computer and its true it does seem like my cable was holding me back a bit in download speed. But wifi seems to add latency. I'll.... just stick with my cable, 9xxmbps is fast enough I think. Plus its always funny if you ever have to call in for support and they ask if you are you using wifi or ethernet and I say ethernet and they are like shit whats that? They like don't even know what to say they must hear it so infrequently these days.

EDIT: So, I don't think its worth buying a new cable just for an extra 100mbps bandwidth, but if it impacts latency too, then maybe I might. Its a very short cable, like 3 feet. And cat 5e perhaps, based on it not wanting to go over 1gbps. Would it.. reduce latency enough to be worth an upgrade...? I mean an upgrade would be <$10..... but still not gonna do it if its unlikely to improve or the improvement would be negligible.

This is what we consider a good day on Starlink :) No idea why it's appearing as "Unknown" for this test.

back to 250mbps internet.png

my isp was doing maintenance for about 24hrs and in turn upgraded the plan back to 250mbps again, glad to be finally moved from 150mbps (which is still fast enough for me), still a decent uplift.

what's wrong with the upload?

That is what spectrum gives with the 1 gig plan in older areas. Newer areas who are getting high split will get 1gig/1gig. My area isn't slated to get that until 2026/2027. They are wicked slow at upgrading their infrastructure. It's a known thing since forever.

my internet went steroids, i pay for 100mbps was already getting 250mbps and now this, when downloading the latest version chromatix mod for gta v i noticed unusually high speeds, wondering if ISP upgraded the plans or just random mistake in providing the bandwidth.
