Hi Everyone!

At first, here is my rig:

Gigabyte Z97 D3H
i5 4670K @ 4.3 GHz
16 GB DDR3
MSI GTX 970 Gaming 4G - only a few months old
EVGA NEX-750B PSU (750W, 80+ bronze) - only a few months old

My problem is with limitating circumstances.

As I see GPU-Z sensors, I have PerfCap (VREL) limit constantly while GPU load. I don't see any effect on clocks, doesn't make crash or anything, but this VREL "limit" appears constantly while load. By the way clocks are stable if I don't have any other limits.

The bigger problem is that sometimes I have power limit, even if I don't increase clocks or anything. It appears for example in Furmark, but only when extreme burning mode AND PostFX are enabled too. It appears too in some extra GPU demanding games, like Witcher 3. And when I reach the power limit, GPU is throttling a little bit of course.

If I set power limit to 110%, the card can reach this 110% too, and then throttling a little bit. Even if I don't overclock, the card can reach 110% power limit when Furmark is running with extreme burning mode and PostFX enabled, or when any extra GPU demanding game is running.

Voltage increasing doesn't solve the problem.

What can be the problem?

Thank you for your help!

It is just how boost 2 works. Put it on water and it should stop.

Or... you have to mod the video bios...

Are you saying that this throttling is normal? No problem?
I read some discussions that throttling isn't too good, clocks should be stable.

I wouldnt recommend any test that involves burning.

I run Heaven for GPU

I run Cinebench R15 for CPU

Recent cards does it all the time if the load 100%. Google around about the bios mods... just don't brick the card if you are really silly and without experience... if so, leave it as be.

what temps do you have when throttling starts?
furmark burnin mode is just for testing maximum heat for short period-you will likely not get that in games

No, I am not silly, but dont have any experience with bios modding, so I rather dont hurt it.

Throttling doesnt depend on temps. It can appear at 70°C or at 75°C. It depends on power limit, as I see.
I set temp limit to 81°C.

this sentence does not make sense to me-sorry.

in afterburner raise temp+power limit to max and look again

Sorry for my bad english...

I set temp limit to 81°C, but I never reached 81. I set power limit to the max 110%.

Throttling can start at 70°C or at 72 or 76... It doesn't depend on temp, because I don't reach my temp limit.
Throttling starts when the card reach the power limit. Sometimes the card reaches the power limit while temp is only 70°C.

By the way I understood that Furmark with extreme burning isn't the best method to test system stability for a longer time.

The perfcap readings your seeing are normal, they happen with stock 970's often.
I own a couple 970's, and i get the same thing. My recommendation is to ignore it,and enjoy your gpu.

The card is doing what it was designed to do when reaching a certain power or temp limit.

The best solution is something ONLY experienced users should attempt, since it can rendr your gpu useless, and is not covered by warranty.
So i recommend what i posted above, either just ignore the reading, or dont run gpuZ.

Google bricked gpu if you feel like you want a good reason to ignore this.

Welcome to tpu

P.S. here's some motivation to ignore it.
